All candidates now have to go through a selection procedure. It is basically like a job application you fill out, and then you have to attend an interview by other Councillors after which you get approved. Many long-standing Councillors are annoyed they have to go through the procedure, they are like WTF i've been doing this for years, don't make me fill out some form. It's has also become a political tool in some areas with parties using it to 'de-select' Councillors they don't like so they can't stand again.

I know the Rochdale organiser, so i'll find out what the real story is. It sounds a bit like a mixture of anti-coalition feeling and underlying spats within the local party comming to a head with the new selection process.

I'm not going to deny a lot of people think that. There are many for whom a coalition with the Tories was very unpalatable.
