The difference between shepherd's pie and a cottage pie is lamb and beef isn't it? Anyway, I'd also put finely chopped carrot in it for a little extra flavour as well as some stock and some wine and just one clove of chopped garlic

i make shepards pie with no tomato, just lamb, leeks, carrots , garlic and stock, topped with sweet potato and parsnip mash. i also make a more traditional version. both go down well at home and when i cook it for work.

i am soooooo hungry now, i am about to go and inspect some out of date bread for mould :D if that fails, i'll defrost some crumpets from the freezer

well i decided not to go to dads cause i'm too tired.....leftover sausages with chicken and roasted potatoes for me tonite :)

failed again getting my meatballs :( it's on the menu for tonight :D

(was out working late and they had a buffet )

me and the female companion are planning on going out for curry tonite...

please note the lack of any sexual innuendo...:D

i will be working :( but its my turn to cook :D so probably pasta with some sauce, or a stir fry, depends whats in our fridge.

admitedly by tea time i may be so shatered that it will be beans on toast all round :D

Made the nigel slater mushroom strogonoff recipe from this weeks Observer mag, and polenta to grill - will be having it shortly :)

This was lovely and very easy, will be made again - was the first time I had made polenta so I was very proud of myself

Asda 'Extra Special' premium pork chipolatas....with something...maybe baby potatoes, but the small girl is funny about potatoes  so possibly blue dragon noodles instead :D or maybe even some pesto pasta...I dunno.

Whatever it is will be accompanied by peas and green beans though.

no idea.

i really fancy a takeaway curry 'cos i don't think we have much food in. but the manshape has gone off curry :( alternatively i'd like chinese but the one nearest us is shit

lamb shanks and sweet potato wedges.
(great follow up to me lunch - 8 skinless chicken thighs and a small bowl of mixed peas/beans).

god...i've eaten so much meat for the last 5 months.

Gonna make that bacon and bean gratin OU posted up

With double cream  and bacon rather than pancetta, cos even though I *heart* pancetta, the bacon will be chunkier

I also bought some green beans to steam to go with it - thought a little crispness would be nice to break up the stodge

Starving now just thinking about it :D

Do you not get that diced pancetta then?

I use the diced stuff more cos it's chunky
I will remember that

I never usually go for pre-chopped stuff cos you end up paying for a fuckload of sweepings and fat, but I guess with pancetta the fat's fine anyway

God I am sooooo hungy now. Can't wait to make it!! the more I think about it, the better it tastes in my head :D

Pizza, garlic bread, salad, chips, rushing tea to get out to the school Xmas show.

My 7 year old has the main part! :)

Bollocks - just read the recipe again and I only got one tin of haricot beans.

Think cannellini will do as a sub?

No, I think the world will end if you use cannellini beans
