Luxury afternoon tea

It’s the only meal I can prepare with any real success. That’s my recommendation - do your own, and take it to a park to enjoy the warmth. It’ll be better than 9/10 places offering a formal sit down.
I really don't want to do this. we have done this before, including last year when we were at CentreParcs :)

How about a cream tea on a train ?

Pretty sure the Bluebell and the RHDR - and a few others - do such things.

{Sadly, as I'm in Northumberland my local choices aren't any help, In any case I'm not friends with one of them atm because : reasons}
I'm still clearing my parents things and recently found their mementoes of a day out with afternoon tea on the Orient Express to the south coast. My brother and I arranged it. It must have been a special day for them to keep the bits and pieces.

If you were up in Yorkshire I'd suggest Bettys Cafe Tea Rooms as they do a children's tea menu as well as an adults version.
I’ve been there a few times! It is a bit over-rated, frankly. And it gets busy, which is unpleasant. And in the middle of a town.

Although I’ve not been for at least five years.

Hi Guineveretoo you don't say how old the small people are but we loved this a while back. Very central and has "theatre" to go with it.
It is not as smart as you think and very handy for Science and Natural History Museums.

that looks great if this was to celebrate their birthdays or whatever, but this is to mark the birthday of someone who will be 66 (me!) and I would like to go somewhere a bit rural and luxurious without being posh.
