Tonight we're having an Indian feast - mini samosas and bhajis, poppadums, sizzling spicy prawns and chickpea and swiss chard curry. I'm also going to cook up a chorizo, pork and bean stew for reheating next week when I'm knackered, and a parsnip and carrot soup for lunches.

The prawns and chickpeas were totally delicious. Looking forward to the stew tomorrow - it was pretty good fresh out of the oven and should be even better reheated.

Hungry today....

Ate well this weekend including an excellent roast lunch yesterday but only a toastie for dinner. I have a BIG SOUP for lunch but not sure what to do for dinner tonight.

Hmmmmm.....

recipe please Mrs Miggins?

tonight I don't know what it'll be - I'm home alone and not feeling too great

It was sooo unbelievably easy!

Take a nice piece of rolled brisket and make sure there's a good layer of fat on it. Our bit was about 800g. Enough for 2 greedy peeps plus leftovers.

Sit it in a roasting tin on top of a few cloves of smashed garlic and some herbs (we used thyme but I imagine a bay leaf or two would also be good).

Pop in the oven uncovered at Gas 6 for 30 mins, then take it out, reduce the heat to gas 3, pour in some wine (just a bit to give it some moisture) and cover tightly with foil (or a lid).

Roast undisturbed for 3 hours whilst you go to the pub :D

We let it rest for the best part of 50 mins while we roasted some spuds and made gravy with the lovely rich winey garlicy juices.

Heaven on a plate!

Tonight, gsv's veggie bolognaise he spent yesterday afternoon making. Featuring everything except the kitchen sink: veggie mince, carrots, chopped tomatos, plum tomatos, garlic, bay leaf, quorn chunks, I think some peppers, probably some chili. It smells and looks great - gsv had a spoonful this morning and says it's a stunner. :)

we were meant to be having a thanksgiving dinner with our american housemate but it seems to have been cancelled, so I'll be having leftover stew instead. which is fine. cos it was very lush anyway

Think it's going to be toad in the hole with mash, green beans or peas, and gravy.

ooooooh, I wanna make toad in the hole now!!! never made it before - can it work with veggie sausages - anyone got any particular recomendations???

I've only made it once before  can't see any reason why you can't do it with veggie sausages.

I put a bit of mustard and thyme in the batter; and sprinkled red onions over the sausages before pouring the batter in - think I might do the same tonight.

I have an American colleague who's husband was asked to invite all their friends over for Thanksgiving only he's invited them next Wednesday :D

Errr...I've put this on the wrong thread! what a dork

Cooked for 12 on Saturday, so it's leftovers tonight:
Porcini mushroom and pearl barley soup
Artichoke and ricotta tart, potatoes braised in saffron & tomato, petits pois a la Francais.
Choccy pud.

I must say I liked your roast-in-the-oven/go to the pub recipe, Mrs Miggins. Especially the three hours @pub part, though I'm not sure I'd be in a fit state to roast potatoes whilst sloshed :)

can someone come round and cook for me please? I feel loads better but am tired - we had chinese last night but I hardly ate any of it cos I felt so hungover and now all I want is more chinese

but thats just greedy - so can someone come round and cook for me please?

*is not seeing urbanites coming to my door and finger starts to twitch over the chinese menu*
