I don't think things are the same as they've always been, this is dangerously worryingly different. The Trump effect is having a serious impact on the relations of the United States has with the other massive pile of nukes on the planet. By all means sort your politics out- frankly I don't think trying to blame big bad Russia for these issues helps anyone. I for one am not inclined to believe fuck all that the same people (media, politicians, spooks or brass) that bought us 45 minutes, Aluminum tubes, Viva Libya (with Manchester splashback but don't mind about that) and all the other bollocks in the past couple of decades now siddle up as one massive hive-mind to tell me this latest narrative they're obviously very keen that I swallow whole-sale. Tell you wot the way I think of a lot of people I see from forums to facebook has plunged since seeing how easy it is for the full-spectrum media to have everyone eating their troofs out the hands of the same dodgy short-sighted bastards that have a trillion-dollar military industry to justify. These state-backed conspiracy theories are so outlandish it's alarming that anyone takes em seriously... but they do. Is it becoz of the years of Russian gangsters in movies and the like that helps it all slide in so easy? As a black man you bet I recognize how it works, people know the script in this movie, who is to play the role of whom, the copious amounts of Ruski stereotypes that the Believers come out with make no doubt re the level we're dealing with here. But this is nuclear geopolitics for chrissakes!

Tell me, do you think it was an act of war for Russia to have meddled in the US elections? (I don't think they did but that's admittedly just my opinion) because if you do think that it was an attack- then surely it was an attack in a war the United States already started when they diddled with Russia's elections just after the fall of the Sovjet Union. They call Putin an authoritarian president but were totally happy when Yeltsin gathered all that presidential power to himself in the first place (Putins not changed the Russian constitution since he took power apparently, all his presidential power is the same setup he inherited that the West was happy for Yeltsin to grab). Come to think of it- where was all this shocked outrage when Americas boy Yeltsin had his tanks fire on the Russian parliament? Even this year the United States has been busy hosting events aimed at supporting the opposition in Russia while at the same time squealing about Russian interference in US politics. Now they've arrested some happless lobbyist and indicted a bunch of Russian military officers because they definitely want all the evidence to come out in court (hint- indicting military officers makes as much sense in the pursuit of truth as it would if Russia called on US officers to come face trial in Russia, that being zilch, which is probably why it was done). I don't say this because 'whataboutism' but rather as an example of how malleable and discretionary the grounds for outrage are. Like Lenin said re political violence init, it's not what was done but who it was done to.

And it's all so fucking petty as well, Russia made a world cup and it was alright, now comes the tsunami of shite to remind everyone how evil Russia is, the exact same game-plan as happened around the Winter Olympics when the coup was carried out in the Ukraine. And then suddenly more Novichok appears and takes out a couple of people, and suddenly just before the summit Meuller decides it's time to start indicting people... I mean the whole thing is so obvious and so orchestrated... I just really resent that this shit actually works (and that people can actually die for it). And it's not even that I like Russia particularly, a flawed society in its own special way like anywhere else. No, it's the cynical but effective manner in which our rulers can just manipulate our society in to believing whatever stupid fucking shite they want even with a Very Final War as the prize. Sic-em boy! Sic-em! that's what this amounts to, people are killed and we just sweep on secure in our own sense of superiority. I just can't believe everyone buys into it but they do! Boris Johnson sez something and everyones like "yeah, what Boris Johnson just said makes sense. Hear Hear" I mean christ!

Bah forget it, what happens happens, resume bashing away at your pinatas as directed. "lolwut, putinbot, space-cadet, conspiraloon." There, saved energy for ya.

\rant
Good rant. I'm glad the lying orange clown met with Putin like I'm glad he met with Kim. POTUS should meet with all US "adversaries." It's his sucking up to Putin afterwards that caused most of the criticism, and the obvious sleazy ties to Russia Trump labels fake news by the media that is "the enemy of the American people." And there is as you say a huge national security establishment that thrives on tensions being kept high. So they met. Good.

I think the rules of what constitutes "war" have changed with the advent of technology.

Not really, "War is the continuation of politics by other means" said Clausewitz, but the essential map hasn't changed. Ideology -> Policy -> Strategy -> Operations -> Tactics. The economic ideology of both the United States and Russia is neo-liberalism, the policy of the RF is security and economic growth, their strategy re hostile elements within the US is balance, offsetting every NATO position with a counter position, off-setting technological capabilities with asynchronism re the nuclear balance. That whole "hybrid warfare" thing is just a buzzword really, I have no military background but war has always been a matter pursued by all available means by the involved parties and where not- it's that compromises of force matter again, like the US fighting with one hand behind its back in Vietnam because it could not for reasons of China and Russia fight with both hands if that makes sense- both hands were not available to it. Anyway look at how Ghengis Khan pursued his campaigns, the means included everything from psychological warfare and intelligence operations, bribery and terror and politics to horsemen and siege engines even back then. War remains war, the internet is basically a US asset and so is most of the global media (couple islands for China, Iran and Russia, and peninsulas like Al Jazeera... but most of it is the vast continent that is the framework of what we call corporate media). I don't think Russia and the US are at war with eachother, they are at politics against each other though and I hope the tool of actual warfare never gets used despite all this racket.

Arguably, and once again I think it's a silly idea that the Russians wouldn't be stupid enough to waste their time attempting (the United States is not a banana republic that can be manipulated externally like that as even Putin said) but arguably if they did foil Hillary's election campaign (considering how belligerent she was being) then that would be a great story of the Russian side heading off a potential attack via non-military means. Winning without fighting as they say, one would almost expect Putins admirers to wish it was true.

Ukraine, downed plane, assasinated critics, jailed opponents, murdered journalists, spies, meddling in US and European affairs, nerve agents, Assadists. Of course the Putin admin is innocent.

None of this is happening.

But you're just reading the labels on the packages you've already bought.

Look, I had a couple beers last night then came back and posted that, but I didn't mean to say those horrible things about your beliefs. So I found some images you might find pleasurable:

Lol! Totally nailed Putin as like Ramsey Bolton. God I miss Game of Thrones. You can use this in your debates. Hope it makes up for my saying stuff, it was just a bit of harmless banter. You know how it is, you have a couple beers and by the end of the night you've tried to pick a fight with a lamp-post.

Voter purge frenzy after federal protections lifted, new report says

Nine states with a history of racial discrimination are more aggressively removing registered voters from their rolls than other states, according to a new report released Friday.

After reviewing voter purges nationally from 2012 to 2016, the nonpartisan Brennan Center for Justice found that the mostly southern jurisdictions which had once been required to get changes to voting policies pre-approved by the Department of Justice had higher rates of purging than jurisdictions that were not previously subject to pre-clearance.

I don't know how to talk to people like you, it's like there's no thinking process in there, just reflexive instinct.

To be fair, I struggle to make sense of much of what you are saying, and don't understand why you seem to think that instinct is automatically a bad, or inferior thing.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

Well you could have tried a credible explanation but I'd have hit you with all other SAMs deployed were from a different division so is beyond the usual typical military SNAFU and you could have said the spook was a legitimate target except for the poor sods that picked up the perfume bottle. This is Will full and reckless endangerment

I don't want to get into that stuff, it's a quagmire of inadequate, un-knowable or managed data. I only wanted to point out that a US president talking to the RF president is in my opinion a good idea considering the stakes. Then I got carried away with the allure of talking geo-politics (about which I have admittedly become a bit of a bore, I enjoy the subject). If you think the Russian priority is not their security and economic development then fine, that's your opinion. Going off on one about those things you think they did isn't really what I was talking about. Anyway seems the way I communicate is mostly impenetrable to others so if you've understood this post this far I think I'll leave things here, it's all just so much waste-heat otherwise.

Special master Barbara Jones ruled on Thursday that nearly half of 4,000 documents labeled as privileged by President Donald Trump, his former longtime lawyer Michael Cohen, and the Trump Organization are not privileged.
Cohen, who finds himself at the center of a criminal investigation in the Southern District of New York, is not challenging her decision in court
is this one of those double negative moments ¿

Dunno if we had this one yet either.

In the nine months after the briefing, nine Russian diplomats or intelligence officers ended up as stiffs, either violently (remember the stunning photos of the guy shot at point blank in the art gallery during an event?) or mysteriously. Connection?

New York’s tax agency opens own probe of Trump Foundation

New York state’s tax-collecting agency has opened its own investigation into the Donald J. Trump Foundation, President Trump’s personal charity, New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D) said Thursday.

Cuomo said this newly disclosed investigation, by the state Department of Taxation and Finance, is separate from the long-running probe of the Trump Foundation by New York’s state attorney general.

That attorney general’s investigation has already produced a civil suit, filed in June, alleging that Trump and three of his children ran a charity engaged in “persistently illegal conduct.”

But, in the midst of contentious Democratic primaries in New York, Cuomo had faced political pressure to do more and seek a criminal investigation into the case.

On Thursday, Cuomo announced that such an investigation had, in fact, already begun. He said the tax agency’s probe could result in a recommendation that local or state prosecutors seek criminal charges.

“For the Trump Foundation, the law is the law. It doesn’t matter who you are, the law is the law.

So Tax and Finance is doing an investigation,” Cuomo told reporters. “If they believe it should be referred [for prosecution], they will refer.”

This might cause a bit of a storm, but did Russia actually do these things?
We were told Saddam had WMD, and that was true, wasn't it?

The big thing we absolutely must learn from Bush and Blair's very profitable Iraq war is NEVER believe what the fuckers tell us because these cunts spin any shit they fancy when a Dollar sign shows up.

I fancied forty winks woke up, turned on my computer, hunted Trump stories, clicked on a version of this, decided I was having a wet dream, then realised it was reality.

It seems Cohen has been taping client conversations in a very Nixon sort of way, and the tapes include many of Trump discussing all sorts of stupid shit.

Sing along .. The sun has got his hat on, hip-hip-hip-hooray The sun has got his hat on and he's coming out today Now we'll all be happy, hip-hip-hip-hooray The sun has got his hat on and he's coming out today

I had a chance meeting with an old friend yesterday, something that put me in a very good mood, then I tucked into a very nice kebab, then saw the news about the Trump tapes, now just enjoyed reading your lovely post.

It's a beautiful day

I'd say there's substantially more independent evidence than there was for Iraqi WMDs that the Russian government, or agents acting on their behalf were responsible for both. But these days, even robust evidence doesn't mean diddly squat I guess. :(

I'm unsure I'm really awake. Three really bad stories, two that could that could sink Trump in a spectacular way, and all after a lovely nap.
It can't be real ..... sorry, I should clarify ... it CAN be real :D

We have to be extremely careful what we take in with this sort of stuff, more so when the US supported side had these missiles in the area at the time AND there are plenty of pre attack photos showing them there. We also know there's a massive US interest in the Russians taking the blame, much being down to gas supplies to Europe.
That isn't to say the Russians didn't do it, just the US gained by it and the Russians had no advantage in this mass murder.
Right, that's hopefully off topiced it's way to best, I'm going smile a lot as I try to imagine Trump and his idiots trying to find ways to stop the lawyer tapes being used in court, or thinking up double negatives to clarify what's on them.

Yep, we're just sheep.

There's a reason why the Putin regime might be in the frame for recent shenanigans. It's got form, it cannot be discounted as mere conspiracy theories.

It would be marvellous if there was a better world where the "superpowers" got on. But these are both hostile nations (the governments, not the people). Neither can be trusted.

Interestingly, It's been reported that the Cohen tape - and specifically this one - are protected by legal privilege, so it seems likely that this has been leaked by the Trump clan (and I'm not in the US, but I gather Rudi has been running around TV stations talking about it, so maybe he's the leader on this).

So, their calculation seems to be that Trump paying off a woman to keep an affair private and lying about it for years is less damaging than what is in the news or is about to be in the news.

Inconceivable that the government would break into a lawyer’s office (early in the morning) - almost unheard of. Even more inconceivable that a lawyer would tape a client - totally unheard of & perhaps illegal. The good news is that your favorite President did nothing wrong!
