It's strange that none of the articles about Trump taking over Canada mention the First Nations land. A good portion of their land is held with a treaty with the the UK. Most of the others have a treaty with Canada, and a few did not sign a treaty.
First Nations land is what really tripped up Quebec's vote for an independent state. Most of the North (where Quebec gets its electricity from) is not owned by Quebec. I remember some of the northern tribes threatening to bring down power lines that crossed their land. Another issue with the Quebec independence was that Montreal wanted to stay in Canada. This lead to a debate about can Montreal separate from Quebec.
