What stupid shit has Trump done today?

It's actually quite common for white Americans to claim Native American ancestry, especially Cherokee, and especially since the late 1960's. This article explains the background, and this is the main reason.

Some of the reasons these days are economic. With greater tribal control that started in the 90s, some tribes have become well off. I noticed the other day that its good to be a Ho-chunk (Winnebago). Their corporate gross income last year was $270 million.

“Ho-Chunk Inc. has become a regional economic powerhouse -- not just tribal,” President and CEO Lance Morgan, who founded the company in 1994, said Wednesday.

The corporation, which generated $270 million in revenues last year, operates 24 subsidiaries across the country and globe in such diverse sectors as housing, construction, finance, information, human resources and marketing.

Trump has history with name calling around that too... that's on YouTube, he's giving "evidence" at a committee (congress?) about casinos.

I'd wondered about that, but am guessing you'd have to have something a bit more solid than Great Grandma Ethel's diary to prove the connection!

Watching this it's amazing how little he has changed: the aggression, the malice, the "punching back", the hyperbole, the sense of grievance...

From that trumpclip ..."Biggest crime since Al Capone"

Oh the irony

The federal authorities became intent on jailing Capone, and they prosecuted him for tax evasion in 1931, a federal crime and a novel strategy at the time
That how they will nail trump .eventually....methinks ...his finances , not collusion

'The U.S. president said he could not understand why a country of samurai warriors did not shoot down the missiles, the sources said.'

'the president went on to say onrable and pull his eyes up at the edges'

I bet he mean that as compliment as well, just crass.

a quick aside to monitor the ongoing press rehabilitation of the Bush family from the absolute worst to men of honour:
Updegrove told the Times George W Bush’s values “and those shared by his father and Ronald Reagan, they are very much in contrast to the values of the Republican party today, in particular the platform that Donald Trump ran on, which is essentially protectionism and a certain xenophobia.”

Speaking to CNN, Updegrove said: “If you look at the Bush family, it makes perfect sense. Donald Trump is everything that the Bush family is not. George Bush grew up thinking about the greater good. Donald Trump is manifestly narcissistic. It’s part of his brand. And that brand is the antithesis of the Bush brand.”
load of balls

I must have American relatives - very far removed - through ancestors who went to Scranton, Pennsylvania, which I believe had a lot of Welsh settlers, coal mining, chapels and the like... HRC has some Welsh heritage I understand. . .

A lot of English people don't recognise that, either! ;)

Isn't Wales a county in England?

(Gets coat and legs it from wrathful Welsh Urbanites)

It's being reported - via leaks - that Mueller has "enough evidence" to indict Flynn and Flynn Jr.

It's not being reported that he HAS indicted them as far as I can see, just that he could.

I read an article recently about how journalists refer to anonymous sources, and putting that with this it seems most likely that someone on the Flynn defence side or perhaps a Congressional contact "who's been briefed on the matter" might be leaking it. I suppose if you're the defence lawyer it might be a way to put up a HELP ME flag.

On more exciting news, Shinzo Abe has played golf with Trump, fed him steaks, and given him silly baseball hats with a "Make Alliance Greater Again" (I'm not making this up) logo on them, so presumably will be allowed to annex Hawaii for Japan shortly.

Nothing to see here . . .

GOP campaigns took $7.35 million from oligarch linked to Russia | Commentary | Dallas News

Donald Trump and the political action committees for Mitch McConnell, Marco Rubio, Scott Walker, Lindsey Graham, John Kasich and John McCain accepted $7.35 million in contributions from a Ukrainian-born oligarch who is the business partner of two of Russian president Vladimir Putin's favorite oligarchs and a Russian government bank.

During the 2015-2016 election season, Ukrainian-born billionaire Leonard "Len" Blavatnik contributed $6.35 million to leading Republican candidates and incumbent senators. Mitch McConnell was the top recipient of Blavatnik's donations, collecting $2.5 million for his GOP Senate Leadership Fund under the names of two of Blavatnik's holding companies, Access Industries and AI Altep Holdings, according to Federal Election Commission documents and OpenSecrets.org.

Donald Trump boasts ‘it was not pleasant’ for countries that underestimated US military - during speech in Japan

“No dictator, no regime, no nation should ever underestimate American resolve,” he added.
And in a remark that held the potential to cause widespread offence in a country where America killed around 140,000 people in 1945 – when it dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki – the President added: “Every once in a while, in the past, they underestimated us. It was not pleasant for them, was it?”
Dr Jacob Parakilas, the deputy head of Chatham House’s US and the Americas programme, told The Independent the remarks were “insensitive”, but arguably no more so than other comments the President is reported to have made about Japan.

Thin he tried to murder expensive fish while wearing ill fitting trousers

It's worth watching the video of that speech. I don't think it's hyperbolic on this occasion to say that he looks and sounds like a complete fucking psycho while delivering those threats. I bet he had an erection the sadist. I've read reports - I'm not sure how reliable - that the translation into Japanese made the comments sound even worse.

He's been furtherly bizarre today I believe, but I haven't seen the actual press conference - taking Abe's questions and the like.

He's only a day or so in and he's got other cultures to negotiate yet!

I was going to say that adult nappies will ruin the cut of a suit, but that would be childish and offensive so I won't.

And, it's not very important I suppose, but does it not bother you that he it appears that he can barely read? I've seen him in a court deposition - in which he was being dishonest and evasive would you believe?!?! - claim that he couldn't read some text because he didn't have his glasses with him so perhaps that's an issue, but, damn!

"My relationship, as you know, with President Xi is excellent. I like him a lot. I consider him a friend. He considers me a friend."

He's going to do a "reciprocal trade" deal with China.
