What are you baking?

Supposed to be making flourless peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies.
But it's a gloopy mess, not any kind of 'dough', so I'm going to pour it into a cake tin and see what happens
(Think I'm done with flourless/gluten free baking though, it's shit. Glutenous flour makes better cakes and bread for a reason).

And while we're at it, fuck American recipes with their volume measurements instead of weight measurements. I think misunderstanding of weights/ratios has led to this excessive gloopiness. How is 1.5 cups of peanut butter going to be the same as 1.5 cups of honey? So it's got a whole jar of peanut butter and a whole jar of honey. And no flour. No wonder it's gloopy.

I've baked it and it ended up looking like a souffle. Said souffle has now collapsed and looks like this while remaining semi-liquid, nearly pourable. Maybe it will set like fudge does. Otherwise I'll be serving it in mugs. What should i call it instead of peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies?
Peanut choc chip sludge? Chocolate and peanut dessert porridge?
This is what it looks like now:

The point stands about Americans and their inaccurate measurements though. Baking is a science! So your ancestors only had cups? My ancestors shat in a ditch in the woods, but I didn't make a fucking convention of it. I have a toilet. And you have scales

There was a point but I think I lost my way a bit there, what with all the rage

You are right though.
Cooking is an art and baking is a science, totally!

You want 4 tablespoons of chilled butter!? How am I supposed to accurately fill silicone spoon measures with a cold solid substance from a massive block!?

And you can accurately measure grams to 1g (or less with drug dealers scales :D ) but the lowest my cups go to is a quarter of a cup, so thats when they want spoons instead.
Even runny honey is difficult to measure in spoons as so much sticks that you don't know how much as actually gone in the bowl.

So yes,

:D

Oh yes! The tablespoons are the worst. Why do they put up with it??

With UK recipes, when they ask for a "spoon" measurement, they mostly make sense.
With US they are often really random and difficult to get in or out of the spoon

And they sometimes call for stupid numbers of them, like 16! I suppose that's where, if you use scales, you can figure out the ml like a normal person, but poor Americans :D

I sometimes Google how much a spoon/cup of something is in grams and try to that.
But it still often doesn't work out right.

But maybe with Brexit we'll be going back to a "goodly pinch" in the this country so we best not mock too much

Also - a 'packed' cup - maaaaaaan! WTF? Just give us your fucking GRAMS!

U.S. 'cups' are apparently smaller that what we might call a cup, too (a MUG  ), so you can't even guess it.

I just chuck every recipe that calls for cups into the pretend bin, tbf. NOPE! :D

*raised fist emoji*

Though to be fair, if Pinterest gives an accurate picture of things, they circumvent most of this by just using packets

I have a set of american cups and it's still a right royal pain the arse!

Well you WOULD, wouldn't you!
Nigella does that 'Oh, I don't really care, it's easy  ' shit, too - chucking her OBV U.S. SIZED measuring cups into every, single cake recipe, ever, like it doesn't matter *tosses hair*

Another item in my defence. The blog didn't bother to format the half sign properly so a half looks like 1/2 which could read 1-2. I wouldn't have been as confused if it had read 300g.

Yeah, but, I've seen her saying things like 'add a tablespoon' and then just pouring an unknown quantity straight from her Kilner jar  She obviously doesn't make anything any more but just chucks a whole load of shit in the oven and then goes into the garden to pick her nose while some grunts do it for her, laboriously, with scales and spoons.
