What are you baking?

That's nice, machine cat. Mr nags will be baking a train cake next weekend for our son's second birthday.

My chocolate mud cake for mr nags' birthday party today was good but probably could have had 5min less in the oven, it was slightly crumbly. Didn't take a photo which is unfortunate because this thread, like the clothes threads, works best accompanied by pictures.

Can I have a best cupcake recipe from someone? I have to bake cakes for the boy to take to childcare for his birthday on Thursday?

Ooh hang on - I have a never fail one

Here you go - this makes about 24 so just half it if you want fewer cakes

4 free-range eggs
225g/8oz sugar
225g/8oz self-raising flour
225g/8oz butter, melted

Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas Mark 4 and prepare two 12-hole tartlet tins with fairy cake cases.

Whisk together the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy.

Gradually add the flour and the butter, folding the mixture together gently.

Pour the mixture carefully into the fairy cake cases.

Bake the cakes for 10-15 minutes, until golden on top and a skewer carefully inserted into one of the cakes comes out clean.

Allow to cool for ten minutes on a wire rack before removing from the tin.

I'm interested in never fail recipes...

Yesterday I made banana and blueberry cake and nutty flapjacks for packed lunches. They're not going to last past Tuesday as I keep eating them

Honestly shifty - I haven't fucked that one up once
I'm not surprised. have eaten all the banana muffins I made - the foal decided they weren't real cakes

Did everyone else know you can freeze bananas? Someone told me that the other day

Hardly left the kitchen since I got up! Two batches of fudge, some chestnut blondies, and just cooked tea *phew*

(ok only one of those things was baked, but the fudge counts doesn't it? :D)

last night, baked for 2 mates coming over for food, I made a banana and butterscotch cake with chocolate ganache top :D It was a bit, errr, sugary :D

From here on I'm goin to bake things on Saturdays, I'm not very good at baking and could do with the practise you see.
Today I am going to attempt a kind of bakewell tart recipe but instead of raspberries I might use apricots because I have a bit of apricot conserve to use up as well as some fresh apricots so I was thinking I'd heat that all up with some cinnamon and cloves and have a spiced apricot layer under the almond :hmm:
But I have frozen berries so I could those and have apricot pancakes or something.

I tried to make some brazil nut and dark chocolate chip cookies the other day. DISASTER.

Baking nothing here. Wondering what to do with a stale french stick? Could feed to ducks or think about a culinary use?
