Urban75's Album of the Year 2012 - the polls are open

Only heard one new album this year I think :( Bloody good record though.

(Thirteen Lost and Found by RM Hubbert if anyone cares)

now i think about it Batchain isnt really in keeping with the spirit of this, which is about music made now - the fact it got stuck and only just came out is just a quirk. also i havent heard it!! but im sure its ace

as usual ive mainly bought reissues ,i wasnt trying to grass you up!
I've mainly bought re-issues, too. But I submitted 10 new releases, if Batchain Puller is allowed. If not, I'll submit another new release.

(My exclamation "Teller!" was aimed at Belboid, btw, in reference to his roll here. If I was aiming it at you, I'd say "clype". :p ).

It's not a re-issue. Batchain Puller wasn't issued until early this year. (You may be thinking of Batchain Puller/Shiny Beast, which was a different album, recorded at a different time, with a different playlist).

The original album was "lost" in legal purgatory until 2011. Finally, in February 2012, it was at last released in its intended form.
I prefer Shiny Beast tbh. 'Owed T'Alex'- one of my all time fave Beefheart tunes - is loads better on the later version. And it's got 'Tropical Hot Dog Night' and 'You Know You're A Man', both of which are fucking great. I like the 'Bat Chain Puller' version of 'Floppy Boot Stomp' a lot though.

'Bat Chain Puller's still loads better than pretty much everything else I've heard this year, though. It'll be very high on my list of possibly two albums. :D

Not heard that many this year but like Sharon van Etten, Daughn Gibson and Father John Misty. Macklemore is good for a laugh.

That Swans album is good but I get the impression several people around here have got sucked into an unofficial contest to see who can like it the most. It is good but it's not the sort of thing I could listen to a lot, there just aren't enough tunes.

Pretty decent Top 50 list here.
it is indeed, and their inclusion of The Lost Tapes had convinced me that it was okay to include albums recorded, but not released, years ago. As a rule - and in previous years I think - I have refused to accept such things. But this year, what with the Can, the Captain, the Cope (okay, that ones so dull it wont even make my list) and especially the X-TG - which is, at least, only a couple of years old - I have reconsidered. Well, that and the amount of times I've been told off in previous years for going "But that's not an album"

I've now acquired it and given it a good listen, and I do like it, but it wouldn't be my number one.
