Urban75 Album of the Year 2002

Hard House/Nu-NRG pretty much at the endpoint of that genre lifespan by 2002 but Weirdo was still putting out some bangers.
Good comp of Tony de Vit tracks "Destination" came out in 2002 too.

My list is done.

First time I have ever struggled to compile at Top20 as there were a surprising amount of great records released that year. Some of my faves didn't make the list...

Just to remind everyone, if you want to submit a list of compilations I will consider them separately.

Archival releases are accepted - hint: Rocket From the Tombs /hint.

Reissues are definitely against the spirit of the whole thing though, vote for them on the year they were originally released when we do that year.

This collection of Hans Eisler tunes is spectacularly energetic. Heiner Goebbels + Ensemble Modern. You may have to go to Spotify (boo hiss) to stream it though. There's something about Eisler that hits hard.

Any thoughts about revisiting 2012 people? We could usurp Swans in Killer B's absence. More seriously it might be interesting to see the year in retrospect see what has lasted or risen to the top over time.

This might be the best Acid Mothers Temple album. I always say this is a band that you need to experience live but there's enough interest here to make this a great album. Plus they cover Pink Floyd's Several Species... so that it's actually good.

I was going to say we're quarter of the way through 2023, so maybe it's time to dive into XXX3 polls.

But then I had a quick look at what came out in 2012 and it'd give me a good excuse to revisit some great albums I haven't listened to for ages and check out some I never got around to

I'm easy.

Personally I wasn't paying much attention to 2012 in 2012. Would be good to have a look at what I've missed. Eg. this looks exciting:

Oh and it is too.

These were some of the albums I was listening to at the time. From memory it was a good year for the Streets, the Flaming Lips and Queens of the Stone Age, though none of them are to my tastes.

If anyone hasn't listened to it yet, Tallahassee really is an amazing album. Admittedly, none of the other songs are as good as No Children, but then No Children is better than all the songs on every other album as well, so you can't really judge it for that:

This is what I would have been listening to at the time:

And Chinese pop but I can't find a very representative album from 2002. All the stuff on my list I listened to in 2003 or later.

Early voting looks like this:

So there's three front runners at the top there each way ahead of the one before and a big old pack behind them.
