Urban75 Album of the Year - 1977

Literally the music my parents might have been listening to whilst conceiving my older sister.

So long as it was on top of the pops, obvs*. I'm not sure they really did fashionable music by any other means.

*if she was conceived during top of the pops which, tbf, has never been clarified.

So much good music to choose from.

Having gone through my collection and given some thought to what my favourites are I'm surprised to find my top 10 is all from Germany, France and Nigeria :thumbs:

And since we're just leaving this here...

Meaning the weekend after the coming one?
Indeed. The coming one is this weekend, do the following one is next weekend. I need time to think.

Actually all the Fela albums are a bit of a cheat as they only have two tracks on each. Combined Fela output for 77 makes one album really. I think a vote for any Fela records should combine into one slot really. :hmm:

Compilations don't count!!!!!!!!!

After ten hours there are already significantly more votes than there were after two months for '67. Therefore the deadline is brought forward to MIDNIGHT, MONDAY SEPTEMBER 11. Which is the end of the Monday.

I thank you for your compliance.

If I was to allow a top 20, I would come across as a really well rounded, eclectically minded, person of uncertain age, gender, or ethnicity.

As a top 10, I'm blates a middle aged white rock dood.
i think youve got to pick personal favourites that you genuinely listened to and really rate. Especially with albums, many have some tunes i like on but are filled with plenty more tunes i could leave...to find an album that works for you from start to finish really corners you into your comfort tastes. If it was 50 one off tracks, then id come across more rounded too. Id struggle to do 20 albums that i really love from start to finish.

Monday is the 11th, rock dood

There will be only me that will list these two albums from that year so excuse me for playing two extracts:

Twilley Dont Mind -Dwight Twilley who were perhaps the greatest exponents of power pop

Future Games - Spirit

have literally never heard of them, interesting / good stuff

Strange 'hump' year; so if I'm honest, I listened to Floyd's 'Animals' as much as 'Pink Flag', ultimately though, 'Marquee Moon' would be my number 1.

I'd do a list, but no idea how to send a PM...only been here a dozen or so years

Before and after science by Brian Eno is one of my faves. Had to check it was 1977 and it is. Also, one for the talking heads debut, one for marquee moon by television and the first Blondie album which I have adored for many years now, my aim is true by Elvis Costello. Still thinking...

How times have changed . I rarely listen to an entire album these days and relistening to some of these reminds me what a prisoner we were with vinyl and albums that were patchy. No jumping to the next decent track you either had to listen to the filler ones and wait for your favourite unless you wanted to be up and down like a yoyo.

I disagree, an album is often a body of work that has been carefully thought out, order and flow, ups and downs etc. I think it's a shame people are not locked into that nowadays.
A good example for me is how much I hated 'come on Eileen', but when heard in the context of the album it works just fine, great even.
