Recommendation Twitter Alternatives

Great paragraph in this look at what Bluesky has been like in the last week

And along with that came a surge of annoying accounts—writers for brand-name magazines, anonymous trolls on burners, a whole horde of people trained to be irritating online. Replies started to include race-baiting, MAGA taunting, self-righteous frothing about gender, or self-important demands for debate. The most obnoxious reactionaries, Musk's people, were simultaneously pitiable and repulsive: their twin conquests of Twitter and of American politics had done nothing to ease their misery or stop them from desperately trying to inflict misery on someone else. By any objective measure, they had owned the libs, yet the libs owned them.

Tell me what you think about how Palestine is dealt with on there. I haven't joined but a couple of mates said it is quite poor on that issue
It's true that a lot of Palestinian accounts asking for money got banned mostly I believe for spamming however this lady @mommunism.bsky.social has made it her business to advocate on their behalf and she chooses 1 account a day to promote as they have been vetted as genuine - somewhere there is an Excel spreadsheet of vetted accounts. i haven't seen it but I've seen people make reference to it. I've given a bit of money to some accounts but the only trouble with that it it seems that word gets around and you get a lot of Palestinian followers. More than you can realistically give money to without leaving yourself not so very well off.

With regard to BlueSky in general, there has been a huge influx of Twitter refugees over the past week or so and by using the Sky Follower Bridge extension in your browser of choice you can reacquire a great deal of the people your were following on Twitter. It has very much taken off.

Regional newspapers are now moving over to Bluesky.

Reductions in the number of monthly posts being allowed on X coupled with the rise of far-right content on the Elon Musk-owned platform has forced many publishers to re-examine their social media strategy.

Major newsbrands to join BlueSky in recent days include the Liverpool Echo, Manchester Evening News, Birmingham Live, Bolton News, Lancashire Telegraph, Sheffield Star, The Herald and The Scotsman. As well as corporate accounts many journalists on these and other titles have also opened accounts on the platform.

The Echo explained its thinking in an editorial penned by political editor Liam Thorpe and audience editor Paul Philbin, with both journalists citing “vile abuse” and “disinformation” on X among the reasons for the change.
Added Paul: “Following the aftermath of the tragic attacks in Southport in the summer, we saw a rise in referral traffic on the Echo from X. During the riots, we would see huge spikes in our audience. But, with that, came a lot of vile responses towards our reporters.

“We also saw a lot of disinformation and misinformation spreading like wildfire on X and and, personally, that was when I first felt we needed a new platform. So far the experience on Bluesky has been positive.”

The Sheffield Star said in an editorial: “Like many news organisations, including the Guardian, The Scotsman and others, The Star has joined BlueSky. The social networking site is growing rapidly as an alternative to Elon Musk’s X.

I’m enjoying Bluesky. It’s funny how some platforms just don’t have it. Threads has many times the users Bluesky has, but Threads is boring. I don’t know quite how they managed it, but it’s sterile. I never took to it.

It’s been pleasant to follow you, but I’m a bit worried about coriander becoming a divisive wedge issue that eventually turns Bluesky into as polarised a hellscape as X.
