Recommendation Twitter Alternatives

I crossed over last night, but so far it just seems to be pics of owls, cats and landscapes. How do you find the politics content?
Who do you follow on twitter that does it? Just find them on bluesky. There's a chrome extension called follow sky or something that will find most of them for you, but I haven't used it before.

I'm a bit too disorganised with it but will sit down and sort it out at some point.

I quit Twitter years ago, toxic shithole that brought out the very worst in me. I only use FB for the stamp groups and the RAMC page.

Actually, after 15/11/2024 the RAMC no longer exists. The medical services have been amalgamated. Over 100 years gone at the stroke of a politician who never served's pen.

To follow politics follow a few journalists/commentators then look at who they are following...

There's also "starter packs" which some people post up which have lists of all the big cheeses in a particular area to follow.

I had the silly idea of posting only under my own name.. Anyway scrapped that except for the sanitised world of history... So now back to 3 different accounts. Need a separate one for transport/active travel as it can get so toxic I need to ring-fence it.

I've stayed on Twitter too long, cos it's where the non-league football news happens

yes - football twitter doesn't seem to have moved across yet. i've reached the stage where i look at it maybe once a week now.

but have actually realised there really can be too many cat pics

no such thing.

and have you posted #proofofcat to verify your account yet?

i have thought about doing similar and splitting it for different directions - although don't think having one account for multiple interests ever caused issues on tweeter.

i have gained a heck of a lot of followers in the last couple of days, and no idea who most of them are - think they are people who follow someone i've followed / responded to. if i follow them all back, it's going to get unmanageable. but i can see having multiple accounts getting complicated as well.

having said that, the only argument i've ever got in to on tweeter was about a historical aspect of one underground station (think it was euston) - it was the sort of post where someone posted an old photo, someone added some info, someone added some more info, i added something and the previous person had a hissy fit about unqualified me responding to their expert opinion...

I guess it depends on what you're happy putting into the public domain in your real name or a pseudonym..
My pseudo account I quite happily mix politics music and various other stuff..
Of course generally if you give a shit about how many people follow you you generally need to post obsessively about one thing only or have the same position on everything..

I currently have 4 followers on my main account.

Only problem I've ever had on Twitter was in the last 3 days by that **** Allison Pearson saying I was on her list of those she is going to sue!

Don't really get BlueSky, seems to promote randomly cats, self promotion of the platform, US politics and very pro Israel content on the ME. Maybe it's their moderation or maybe I'm doing it wrong.

You're doing it wrong. The BlueSky feeds only work if you're following a load of people. Then it all works way better than Twitter. Search for relevant starter packs and follow lots of accounts aligned to your interests.

If anyone is interested, there's a Bluesky membership counter, currently showing 18.5m users, with a growth rate of around 9 new users every second.

Gone up another 662k in just 19 hours, it's still got a long way to go, but if it keeps growing like that, it may well turn into a real threat to twitter.

<crosses fingers>

My work decided to ditch X and set up accounts on BlueSky and Threads today. Suspect there will be a lot of similar decisions being taken by organisations this week.

the public transport world could do with following that.

one (current) use for Xitter is that the local bus and train operators are fairly quick to put information about delays up on there (bus operators often can't get messages up on real time displays at bus stops, as they are controlled by councils who tend not to have 24/7 staffing)

he usefullness of this went down when you started needing to be logged in to Xitter to see them rather than just saving it as a bookmark / favourite on a browser...

There were mutterings a WCFC on Saturday that might hopefully lead to non-league football leaving X. I do hope so. The fans group who do stuff on twitter were clearly "uncomfortable" about the situation.

Has anyone used this yet?

It is supposed to scan your Twitter account and find all same users you follow over on Twitter that are on Bluesky.
