I don't think I have "misunderstood" anything, durutti. The IWCA have taken the state approved meaning of the word "multiculturalism" and have used it as the thrust of their anti-racist policies. So, rather than promote tolerance (i.e proper multiculturalism), they make no mention of it.

With regards to your last point, you clearly don't understand irony or sarcasm.

In retrospect though I think there's a much simpler explanation - the IWCA simply have an adverse reaction to anything with the initials "MC" (e.g Multi Culturalism, Middle Classes, Microphone Controller, Master of Ceremonies etc).

Looking through that old thread reminds me how shite things used to be when this board was under the iron heel of the Bakuninites. Fortunately now this force has been shattered and only exists as isolated pockets of resistance (e.g Larry the Loon etc*). But beware comrades, the Bakuninites may well regroup under the leadership of that evil genius "Torres" and then we're really in for trouble. They're ruthless and they'll stop at nothing.

Great comrade Marx learnt this the hard way.

Now then, why is it not possible to criticise or critique the IWCA without someone coming along and claiming that one is labelling them "racist"? Are the IWCA above any form of criticism?

The SWP always come in for criticism here and rightly so but is the IWCA that perfect?
 
I've looked at other parts of the IWCA's manifesto and a lot of it is quite commendable. Though the part about "multiculturalism" is still a sticking point because beneath this, lies a current of workerism: a romanticised notion of workers and the working class. It doesn't mention the celebration of other cultures and rather assumes that all working class people should have some sort of homogenised culture that totally ignores cultural identity.

What is wrong with an entire community celebrating Diwali, for example, or is this, as the IWCA sees it, a means of "dividing the working class"?

i have to agree with you. sadly i have reported countless abusive posts yet not even an acknowledgement of receipt of them let alone acknowledgement of the abuse let alone action re the posting rules .. not good
 
What do you want me to do? I acknowledge a bunch of posts where poster x disses poster y, I also see a bunch of posts where poster y responds in a provocative manner. I could ban poster x, but then lots of poster x's friends will come complaining. And vice versa. All I can do, which I have done, is tell poster x that he's a naughty boy and not to do it again.

You see the squeeze I'm in. The powers I have are either too weak, or too strong. We could set up some sort of '3 strikes' system, but ime (from other boards where they have such systems), further rules and bureaucracy create further reasons and rules for posters to wave at each other when engaged in verbal.

And in the end, the 'arguments' become about petty rules and slights, with the original topic long forgotten. Everything goes meta, and before you know it all you're talking about on messageboards, is messageboards.

So, again, the best advice I can give is to use the ignore buttons - the one on the boards, and the one in your head. I can personally tell you that this is possible, I have done it myself. Please try.

crispy i appreciate your situation yet equally, decent threads i have started or been involved in have been ruined by nino (and others) with childish tit for tat, abuse and ignoring of the op.

When i look at the rules it seems to me that nino regularly and frequently breaks the below rules ... If you have rules, as this website has decided to do, then they must be enforced .. and enforced equally. And again when you have rules it must be part of the Mods remit to monitor and enforce those rules. I have seen countless people banned for what seems to me far less than how nino posts.

Tbh i have been on urban 3 years i think before i decided to go down this route. It is not good when appeal after appeal to a poster to stay on topic is ignored.

i accpet that this is bureaucratic and as i say constantly would much prefer if posters just grew up!! but when they do not that is what the rule sare there for.

i think it woudl be very sad to see nino banned and hope is is not but really do hope he puts his undoubted energy into debating rather than ridiculing and doubting

i will also not put nino on ignore but will esssentially ignore him. a shame

Trying to get someone banned from Urban rather shows you for the person that you truly are: one who cannot deal in truths and one who would much rather control the discourses on immigration on this forum. It would seem that you have plenty of time on your hands to go trawling for 'evidence' none of which serves your cause very well. You also seem to have plenty of time to start more immigration threads - all of which could easily be incorporated into one sprawling thread.
