Thread to note supply shortages in the shops

This reminds her of their Honeymoon.

They ate Turnip then too.

Swedes will be safe, I think, they’ve got a foreign sounding name so won’t be bought in bulk by brexiteers who insist they never liked tomatoes anyway.

Are these Brexiteers allergic to visiting their local shops? Plenty of tomatoes to be had there.

The local shops thing, every time it’s mentioned it makes me miss my old home when I lived in the big city and plenty of fresh food independent shops & stalls nearby.
It’s a shit thing about where I am now that there really are zero small shops with fresh produce of any kind anywhere around, not in either of my closest towns anyway. Small shops just have shelf food not fruit & veg. Apart from a weekly farmers market which is stupidly overpriced it’s just the supermarkets. I don’t know how much of the country is like this but it’s rubbish.

Farmers markets never seem to sell actual produce when I visit them. It’s all artisan honey and cakes and sausages with some artisan takeaway stuff.

There is an actual market nearby on weekends but it’s not billed as a farmers market

It's not as if I'm living in a big city or a posh town with a fancy farmer's market. I remember seeing a place in my local shopping centre which sold nothing but fresh fruits and vegetables, I wonder if that place is till there? Worth a look I reckon. Some people might shit on Slough (because they're fucking snobs), but at least it's not a food desert.

That some people can only rely on supermarkets to get fresh produce is a problem that should be addressed.

Heads up get your apples in now. This is just shit isn't it, its going to go on for a long time until we sort our own food production out better.

They're literally saying that they're not growing more because supermarkets don't pay them enough. More evidence for the "supermarkets are being run by greedy idiots" hypothesis.

But, of course they are though I mean do you think supermarkets in the other countries who have no rationing of tomatoes right now are run by a different sort of idiots the generous ones?
We just needed to adjust a load of stuff to prepare for increased self reliance / resilience as a result of the change in circumstance of leaving the common market & we (the government and the supermarkets) haven't.

i reckon an old fashioned greengrocer with the paper bags and all that would do really well in either of the towns near me, people would love it. The supermarket prices mean that my little fruit and veg shop would be loads more expensive though if i had to drive in and get things from the london wholesale market every morning, idk whole thing is a big mess.

This UK shortage isn’t related to Brexit actually. But the fact that the UK is primarily reliant on domestic supply that’s currently affected by high energy prices and foreign supply that is faced with bad weather currently.
