Therese Coffey Health Secretary your time is up

I like to think of U75 as a bit like what we used to call consciousness raising. If you say something sexist, racist or daily mail-ish you will be challenged to think again.
I wouldn't say something sexist or racist or Daily Mailish. I might say something bitchy, and I always will, that's just my humour, and it's how my friends and family speak to each other. Im always willing to look again or discuss something robustly, but I'm not going to change my personality at 40 (and I will never be trolled by a liar looking for a fight, pitching up mid conflict to spread poison about me while insinuating I'm not welcome as if I need his permission to be present - that is not 'consciousness raising', that's fucking horrible and it has its own sexist overtones).

Seems to me that you're ignoring the realities of politics. Theresa Coffey is where she is because she appeals to her electorate.
No she isn't.
The electorate did not make her health secretary.
Please read the thread title.
This thread is not about Coffrey per se.
It is about Coffrey as health secretary.
As soon as she changes her job title, the issues about her life style evaporate.

I'm 41, and in the course of keeping up with events my language has changed a lot over time. Being middle aged is fuck all excuse for anything.
Who's middle aged? You describe yourself that way if you want to. If I want to be bitchy in passing, I will. That doesn't require a sea change in conciousness and language. If you like to modify your language as you go, then modify your language towards what demographic you assign to me, because being 41 is no excuse for being patronizing and sanctimonious without irony.

Mostly your posts have seemed OK, but you're really coming across as a prick on this thread and topic. 'Bitchy ... just my humour.' No, it's shit politics and misogynist, don't try and excuse it just as banter or funny quip type thing. What's this nonsense about not changing your personality at 40 ffs, nobody is saying that, just to stop sounding like a ignorant dick.

Tanya1982, you see 'bitchy', we see 'poor/no politics'. 🤷‍♀️ But you know, crack on or whatever.

For you, the issues about her lifestyle evaporate. I don't and have never given a shit whether she smokes, drinks or eats heartily.

Why should a woman be skewered for misogyny? Dick or bitch - whatever, it's just different words for the same thing - I've already admitted to a bitchy tendency, so what's the point in calling someone a dick too? That's just prolonging conflict.

What? While you're busy cosying up to some bully, lacing poison in the middle of disagreement to undermine someone's integrity (because I've said one thing that some people didn't like), lying about other forums as if I use multiple ones, liking their posts with little sad faces. You're a bit poor yourself Sue.

I'm sorry, that statement doesn't make sense. I'm not. It doesn't ultimately matter, but no, I'm not all over the shop. I haven't contradicted myself, I've explained where I'm coming from. Others might've found it too bitchy and that's fine (although some of what followed has been way more than bitchy) but that doesn't make it all over the shop. I thought you were making a philosophical retort - if you weren't, that's my mistake, but it still isn't my inconsistency.
You are all over the shop if you think as you've said that tyndall, mosley and Blair are in the same league of inflicting human misery as Hitler. Maybe I should have made it clearer I was focusing on sentence two of your post but I thought it fairly obvious.

Because plenty of minor conditions can be assessed and treated by people with the appropriate training (usually an MSc on top of their degree and years of practice) that are not doctors but other HCPs. It happens now, and it's a good thing to expand it.

While that is true, that's not the case here. Even if it was, could the pharmacy system cope with that level of increase demand?

If you want to pretend being in your 40s, ie. dead on in the middle of your life, is not middle aged then by all means you do you, I suppose.

The average age in this country is 41. The life expectancy in the UK is 81.2 years. How are you not middle aged?

I'm not replying to any of the cross thread trolling going on on this thread because its a waste of my precious energy. Why dont you lot save a bit of energy for fighting people who are destroying the nhs instead of throwing insults at each other? somethimes this place is worse than the playground

None of my relatives have died before 90, unless they've had physical accidents in cars or whatever. I don't appreciate someone insisting that I'm middle aged when I've already said I don't consider myself that way - I think it's quite rude. I generally consider middle age to be late 40's to middle 60's or thereabouts, it's a flexible concept.

If it's any consolation I'm mainly saying that I'm middle aged, you just happen to be one year younger than me and insisting you're too old to change your ways.

The only people who object to being called drunk are already pissed as a fart. Similarly, with middle-aged people...
Hmm, no. Sober people with balance issues or slurring might also object to being called drunk.

Middle age as commonly applied is a really flexible concept, defined completely individually, and a conceit of western industrialized economies. If it describes the exact midpoint, it differs by post code, and for an individual can only be identified posthumously. It's a useless lifestyle term.

Are you really so unaware of how women have to suffer from more comments on their appearance than men?
Yours and others comments on Coffey don't exist in some vacuum
No, I'm not unaware of it, as a woman I live with it daily, and freely admit to having a conflicted relationship with the pressure feel personally.

You've set the bar high for your future forays into pedantry

I'd certainly agree it's a ridiculous thing to be judged on. After all, being a bit wrinkly makes no odds whatsoever to how well you can, for example, do your job. All that "middle aged spread" stuff eh? Unnecessary. If only there was some way to raise the conversations we have beyond such frippery.
