The Reform UK Party (latest nigel farage vehicle) is it to be laughed at or not

Reform UK Party Limited are now threatening to intervene in the operation of the criminal justice system, by writing to the Home Secretary to give advance notice of their intention to bring a private prosecution in relation to an incident at Manchester Airport on 23 July 2024 if two men arrested during the incident are not charged with criminal offences:

All of Reform UK Party Limited's members of parliament have signed, including James McMurdock MP

We have a local election for a seat on the council on Thursday. Not sure about Reform's campaigning technique. This morning they were hanging around outside the local primary school (which will be the polling station) with banners, during the school run. Not sure of the legalities of that but I'd say ethically, it's very dodgy!

I've seen parties campaign by school gates in morning/afternoon but I don't think it's particularly common, if just because it feels very awkward

Well hopefully my missus has got them in the shit for that stunt. She emailed the school, innocently asking why Reform were there and are they something to do with the school now. The school quickly replied back to emphatically make clear that they were nothing to do with Reform. Didn't seem too pleased to have their name dragged through the muck. :D

I was in a CLP that leafletted outside primaries. It was all pretty gender stereotyped IIRC, with mainly women activists involved hoping to engage "Mums" at pick-up time.

Interesting, can't imagine Reform were trying to be so measured

Result! We had a council by election today to replace our Labour councillor in my ward of the town, who became our new MP. Reform were hoping to take this with a guy who got kicked out of the Tory Party because he was even too Islamaphobic for them. Instead they got spanked and even if he had teamed up with the Conservatives, would have still lost.
The results are in for the Little Parndon and Town Centre by-election:
Linda Clark, Lab - 511 ELECTED
Mark Gough, UKIP - 23
Ernesto Johnson, Green - 56
Peter Lamb, Reform - 201
Colleen Morrison, Con - 227

For a bit more info on Peter Lamb, read this. I challenged him online about this but he didn't want to respond, just seemed more interested in dissociating himself for the UKIP guy.

Yaxley-Lennon was always going to be problematic for Reform, because although his beliefs and views are shared with many in Reform, Farage doesn't want anything to do with him, after all it was when Farage stepped down as UKIP leader, and the new UKIP leadership started to embrace Yaxley-Lennon, that Farage left UKIP and set-up the Brexit/Reform party.

So, this headline should come as no surprise -

Reform UK is facing a schism over its approach to Tommy Robinson’s supporters, after two high-profile party figures said it was wrong to disavow those who went to a weekend rally backing the far-right leader.

Richard Tice, the deputy leader of Reform, said earlier this week the party “want nothing to do with” Robinson and “all of that lot”. Nigel Farage, the Reform leader, also said after the summer riots that he had never had anything to do with “the Tommy Robinsons and those who genuinely do stir up hatred”.

But two high-profile 2024 candidates, Howard Cox and Ben Habib, took a different position, saying those attending Saturday’s rally were some of Reform’s own people.

Let's hope this schism grows, and we see yet another far-right party implode.

From what I've been seeing of the Tommy Robinson lot, online and from the Tommyless protest, the other week, most of his supporters seemed to have rejected Reform and are going for dead duck party, UKIP, instead.

I would say that that was a good result for Reform.

Might it be better to have more far right parties, at least whilst we still have FPTP?

There was plenty standing in the GE (in order of number of candidates standing)- Reform*, Social Democratic Party*, Heritage Party, UKIP, English Democrats, Freedom Alliance, British Democrats, English Constitution Party.

* Some stood on a joint Reform/SDP ticket.

** These are just eight that stood out on the list to me, I may have missed some tiny ones, and there are others that don't seem to have stood this year. like Britain First and Reclaim.

I am not surprised that the real hardcore TR supporters, the more vocal online, have turned their backs on Reform, because Farage doesn't want anything to do with TR, and TR has been vocal with his attacks on Farage, whereas UKIP embraces TR and his supporters.

That will be part of the reason why some in Reform want to get closer to TR, in order to bring these voters over, but also to avoid losing the Reform voters that have attended or supported the marches from switching to UKIP.

Above average CV inflation going on here.

Byline Times called a number belonging to McMurdock requesting comment. A voice matching his said: “Sorry buddy, I think you’ve got the wrong number.”

He had to pad his CV out with something to cover that gap when he was in prison for beating up a woman.
I thought I'd check - he was as well, his ex-girlfriend no less

Although the exact details are disputed by Mr. McMurdock, he has confirmed that he was charged with common assault, leading to him spending a short stint in jail. The attack is understood to have happened 20 years ago, when he was a teenager.

In the run-up to the trial, the banker-turned-MP had initially professed his innocence, right up until the last moment. It was only after the victim and her family had given witness statements that James McMurdock changed his plea to guilty.

Reform MP previously served jail time for ex-girlfriend assault

He has been branded a ‘monster’ by the victim’s mother, who has also rejected the notion that he should be allowed to represent the public. It is alleged that McMurdock injured his ex, left her body bruised and marked, and was ‘pulled away by two doormen’.
