The Reform UK Party (latest nigel farage vehicle) is it to be laughed at or not

Apparently Ant Middleton was there and it doesn't even surprise me.

Lee Anderson doing the whole 'if a boy plays with a doll and a girl plays football, it doesn't make them trans' thing is laughable considering he'd probably call a boy playing with a doll a poof. And the people on his side are the kind of people who get incensed when women's football is covered on the BBC and write endless angry posts about it.

The first I heard of Ant Middleton was reading your post. I have since looked him up. Is he worth mentioning?

This guy. The SAS bloke. He did a speech about 'strengthening British culture'. The armed forces have a tendency to attract right-wingers, hence my lack of surprise.

Had never heard of him but I suppose he’s a tv personality really from the article and I don’t really watch TV.

From your link, seems like a nice guy, with no aggression issues.

Middleton was convicted of the unlawful wounding of one police officer and common assault upon a second police officer in 2013 in a nightclub. He was sentenced to 14 months in prison, of which he served four months.

I'm so relieved. I thought it was Ant from Ant and Dec. Not that I'm a big fan or anything, just that they feel like a barometer. If Ant and Dec go fash I reckon we're pretty fucked.

Apparently Ant from Ant and Dec was a big Labour supporter until 2010 when he went Tory. He changed his mind again within 3 years, though, and said he'd struggle to vote for either Labour or Conservatives. No idea where he stands now.

Looking at the setup for their conference and there’s some seriously expensive PA/lights/video involved. Would love to know which company and crew sold their soul for that

In the 2019 election he and his sidekick said they were big supporters of Jeremy Corbyn and would be voting for him.

When someone mentioned this to Corbyn he said "who are Ant and Dec?" He'd genuinely never heard of them. He didn't do himself any favours there as whether you like them or loathe them, most people know who they are.

I only know them from Byker grove which was on when I was a kid.

Never watch the sort of prime time entertainment shows they are on, I doubt I’d know they were if they were 15 years younger

I can't stand them myself as they seem to be everywhere , even in adverts, but they're part of popular culture whether we like it or not and politicians ignore this at their peril.

best part of 80 year running and bile and hatred

and that old witch is the future

only if you voter reform :hmm:

Maybe it was an existential question.

So given Make America Great Again hat wearers became Magats, does that make Let's Save Britain hat wearers Lsbians?

Worth pointing out as they make a big thing about the “thousands” there - as anyone that’s worked in that particular hall at the NEC can clearly see, they’ve curtained off approx 2/3 of it. So perhaps not quite the ticket sales they were expecting when they first booked it.

Must be hard to gauge how many will come to a new party conference.

Labour apparently usually is around 12k but may be about 20k this time.
Tories also apparently around 12k. Although maybe less this time.
LDs, 3-4k.

Not sure about Greens, SNP.
