The Reform UK Party (latest nigel farage vehicle) is it to be laughed at or not

No

The strategy is 2029 and to reshape the right between now and then. Either Farage and Co have a decisive influence in a populist reconfiguration of the Tories or Reform attempt to displace it as the oppositon to centrism/elite liberal opinion.

No.

Regardless of the result (and I think Reform are going to a) poll extremely well but b) due to first past the post this won't translate into more than 4-6 seats) the conspiracy/hidden hand of the establishment stuff is here to stay. He's learnt from the US that this type of stuff has traction due to popular despair/hatred of the elite/political class. Regardless of the result we can expect his tik tok/social media to pump this stuff out and for it to be shared over and over again.

Farage packed out the NEC in Birmingham at the weekend. The biggest event of the GE by a distance and the sort of numbers that flaccid centrists like Starmer and Sunak can only dream of. In recent memory only Corbyn could connect in a similar way. He will win Clacton and poll millions of votes. On 5th July as the rump of the Tory Party surveys the scale of the defeat - and with a Labour Government probably 6 months away from crisis - don't expect anything but a gloating and empowered Farage to step forward with his 'contract' for 2029.
What will that crisis be?

What will that crisis be?

  • Rising energy prices, lack of economic growth, interest rates remain high and the cost of living crisis continues to bite.
  • Public sector unions and workers reaction to the pay remit due to be published later this month.
  • £18bn of cuts that are baked in to the Labour and Tory spending plans.

Most of all, the realisation that a vote for Labour was, fundementally, a vote for more of the same.

If he loses, he'll just get on the sour-grapes train accusing everyone from labour to the tories to the morning star to the telegraph of ruining his special moment.

If he wins, he'll do more or less the same but with a smug smile.

Farrage wants to be the corpse at every wedding and the bride at every funeral: according to Neil "Manila" Hamilton.

crikey. full on loon bingo.
He's also previously come out with conspiracy stuff about covid and climate change / net zero :D

He's even admitted himself that he's just a paper candidate with no chance of actually winning many votes though.

I honestly don't know what those loons are so angry / frustrated about. The world would be so much better and there'd be a lot less to be scared about if climate change wasn't real, covid hadn't killed so many, and the global powers were working on a socialist revolution...

Anyone think Farage will quit after he wins his seat?

i mean if they don't get a load of seats what's he going to do? will he do anything for the people?

will he just be happy with the £25 per member and fuck it all off?

Obvs he will blame the establishment and say he couldn't make any change everything is rigged against him etc etc
Why would Farage quit? Being an MP gives him an opportunity to rake in a salary of around £90k a year, and he'll have a platform in the House of Commons, so anytime he speaks it will be widely reported.

And it's not like he'll have to do much work, he can offload constituency casework to caseworkers.

As an MP, he'll be in a position to hire friends into lucrative positions, as an MP he can influence in other ways (eg see PPE scandal).

He'll have a platform outside the house of commons and now the palace of Westminster is no smoking he's more likely to be found outside it in any beer garden or by the entrance to a pub

I do find it a bit :hmm: that refuck candidates are suddenly discovering that some other candidates are 'racist, misogynistic and bigoted'
Georgie David agrees, but just how stupid do you have to be to not realise that in the first place 🤔
Tice says they are being offered safe seats. Tory's. Safe seats. Really.

  • A second Reform UK candidate has defected to the Conservatives, saying the "vast majority" of party nominees are "racist, misogynistic and bigoted"

Yep, West Ham and Beckton according to the link. Now I'm not a qualified psephologist but I'm going to stick my neck out and say that one might not be a nailed on Tory seat.

I know it's wrong but part of me can't help but be a peedie bit impressed by just how batshit the local Reform loon is.

He seems pretty clueless on the World Bank, what it does, and who from the UK serves on it.

It's not part of the UN; it doesn't write rules on banking; and the current UK representatives (until Friday) are Andrew Mitchell and Jeremy Hunt.

Why let the truth get in the way of a good conspiracy theory?

An ex girlfriend was an agronomist for the world bank, I might have made more effort with the relationship had I known she was part of a global woke conspiracy
