The most awkward bank holiday ever

Lots of supermarkets are actually going to be closing for the day unless they are in the vicinity of where funeral-rubberneckers might be (respect up to the point where they might miss out on making a lot of money out of the situation haha) - Sainsburys is going to close, as is John Lewis/Waitrose, Aldi and Primark (respect to a dead billionaire but fuck child labour) I think too. There was an article with a list on the BBC news pages somewhere.

Morrisons is turning the beeps on their scab tills down out of respect

i went to amend my leave because of the bank holiday but the computer wasn't having it. so i emailed hr, and at 9 last night got an email back saying that they were cancelling all leave for monday. and going through the records of everyone who'd requested leave, doing it manually. safe to say i think there will be much cursing king charles, the last of his name, in our personnel department

Can’t even go to Yorkshire Sculpture Park for the day as they insist on closing. That’s what we do on bank holidays! And it’s a fucking park.

You've lost your upper case, has your account been hacked? :D

Come and live in Scotland. We have St Andrews Day on 30th November.

I would personally like a bank holiday/fiesta/celebration in each of the winter months to cheer us up.

Shorter working hours, same pay - businesses give the ok to go home 2-3 hours early.

Working in the dark is grim and even with the time zone fuckery you wake up and go to work in the dark and come home in the dark anyway.

So as far as shops are concerned it looks like it will be similar to Christmas day - the odd corner shop might be open and possibly a takeaway.
I wonder if we get mental panic buying scenes at the supermarkets the days before the funeral like we do at Christmas.
