Thatcher's state funeral

I hate the woman and she shouldn't have a state funeral, then again I don't like state funerals anyway. When she dies it'll be a good day but we have to get on with today's struggles.

The irony is that some people might get the day off work, whereas if she had HER way no one would EVER get a day of!!

Half the country ? I doubt that very much. The Lady won 3 elections. She is still adored by many Conservatives and is admired by many many others. Go abroad and ask foreigners to name a British Prime Minister from 1960 onwards and its almost a cert they will say Lady Thatcher. You lefties do make me laugh with all your bravado. Labour can carry out illegal wars, make people pay for their education and preside over the biggest collapse in social mobility since the end of WW2 yet all they need to do is wave a glove puppet of Lady T at any of you who dissent and you are cowering in the corner pissing yourselves like scared little puppies as you fall over yourselves to go and vote the tossers back in.

I think that those of you who think you are going to be given carte blanche to just indulge in your sick antics might well be in for a bit of a shock.

Lady? Lady? She's a fucking witch man, how sad have ya gotta be to worship a fucking toff

Tell you what, when she pegs it, we'll dig up her rancid corpse and then you can shag it. Deal?

:D :p

Lets be honest, you are all too shit scared of her to do anything while she is alive.

You're not actually answering the question though are you, Maggie Lover? ;)

Go on StoatBoy ... when she was in power, did her 'toughness' and 'authority' give you a stiffy?

Just a little one? ;)

Got into a tory conference in Blackpool early eighties and the only people 'shit scared' were some tory delegates nervously looking in our direction.

Happy days. :)

Why don't they give her the same burial as her friend Pinochet gave his citizens? I'm sure it would be a lot cheaper and more just

Couple of whacks to the skull and ribcage with a sledgehammer, bit of quicklime, couple of inches of soil on top, and there's your full Pinochet-era Chilean burial, guv.

I think this is a problem though. I am 23 and have no memories of Thatcher. This is why Labour can't use that excuse, "fuck up we have now is a direct result of those time", as too many voters are too young to remember her, and have only experienced New Labour's rule.

What's stopping you from reading about it? I didn't live under Anthony Eden but I understood that he was a man desperate to secure his place in history by launching an attack against Egypt.

Actually, it's like saying "I wasn't around when Hitler invaded Poland. I can't understand what was so bad about him".

The fact of your short existence and ignorance of modern British political history doesn't change the facts of what Thatcherism wrought on the UK, does it? :)

Fuck the State funeral for this dirty nasty scumbag, there are some hungry dogs roaming around the alleyway here, I,m sure they will dispose of her when she finally pops it.

I must admit, your posts make me laugh, out loud sometimes.

Your wailing is an expression of your impotency; or don't you see that?

There was Thatcher, someone you detested, and you couldn't do a fucking thing about it. :D

Get over it. :D

do you call smashing her poll tax and ending her political career not doing 'a fucking thing about it ' you plank .

Think everyone should save their gas bills, electric bills and water bills..........and whatever else she privatised and shred them.....sort of tikker tape.....so after she sold us all down the river we can remember her by all the big bills we now have to endure.

Dont think she should have a state funeral. There would be a riot.

Precisely the reason why I think she should have one - the police, the army - none of them would be able to stop the riot, it would be an embarrassment to all those who said she deserved one.

They might sail her down the river..........so the public cant get too near. But Im sure we can all borrow a boat, canoe or dinghy.

It's not about that. I'm saying New Labour cannot keep rolling out the "blame the Tories" excuse as the younger generation won't listen.

Spare a thought for them hungry russian bears thatcher would make lovely meal for them or is she that evil that she would poison them;)

One thing we may all agree on is that a state funeral will cause a chasm of devision in this country, for all those in favour there are plenty opposed

Well that's good enough as it's pretty much the same

Do they though? Many of the problems that this country has can be traced back to Thatcher's time in office: the state of the railways; the state of local communities; the lack of strategic planning in the metropolitan counties (Greater Manchester, Tyne & Wear, Merseyside etc) and the me, me me, culture.

I'm not convinced Labour really send out the 'blame Thatcher' message to anyone. Sure they use the Tories as a bogeyman to scare certain people into voting for them again but surely that's more from the point of view of the hubris of the Major years. Labour's debt to Thatcher is plain to see, their refusal to reverse the major reforms of those years and the fact they've agreed to a state funeral for her is proof to anyone that they think she was a good thing.

I agree. I can't recall when I last heard a Labour minister mention Thatch in an unflattering way. In fact both Brown and Blair invited her to Number 10.

their position is surely more 'remember how corrupt, incompetent and downright slimy they were in the nineties' than anything to do with Thatcher's government. the big scare tactic is the early nineties recession.

ok fair enough on one level .. and clearly labour would be entirely hypocritical to use this as they adopted her policies hook line and sinker .. but those who were around do NEED to tell educate show etc how important thatcher was and how it changed this country .. and actually it IS a difficult arguement for many people .. we have higher levels of prosperity housing and even better trains .. but it has all been done at a terrible cost

Aye and if anything, it will be the Major government that gets mentioned rather than Thatcher.
