Thatcher ordered the task force to sail when all conventional politcal opinion said don't - according to every single autobiography of the period I've ever noted (party political and otherwise). I'd think that might have had some bearing on freeing the Falklanders from the fascist-led Argentines.

You can't understand very much about the constitution if you believe that Thatcher "ordered" any such thing.
"Conventional political opinion" in the two main parties was, oddly enough, held mostly be men who had served in the armed forces, many of whom had actually fought in one of Britain's numerous post-war actions. Hardly surprising that they weren't particularly keen to jump in boots first when diplomacy had a chance (not forgetting, of course, that the invasion was in small part due to Thatcher's poor relationship and communications with her foreign secretary anyway).

As for turn out - are you suggesting people didn't have a choice about whether they voted or not; see, I'd have thought if peolpe were opposed to Thatcher, they might have voted against her?

I'm not suggesting anything of the sort. I'm saying that "majority" is a matter of degree, and that tories often neglect to mention the degree because it conflicts with the Thatcher myth.

The last WWI survivor WILL have a state funeral. This was announced some time back. Down to three now IIRC.
