Storm Eunice, 18th Feb 2022 - news and discussion

Some capricous wind bursts and damage out there today...my road's fences are all down after a gust from the SSE rather than the SW or Westerly gale, and I notice that this Guardian image shows a tree fall from the NE:

Even though we're Red Zone, it doesn't seem that bad round here. A bit gusty on the shoreline and I saw a small tree over.

I really feel for all you who may have garden furniture that has fallen into a flower bed.
Init! bits of hailstones here and there, not that severe wind really

Hope the driver's OK

My mother, back when I was a school student, had the unpleasant privilege of being almost the first on the scene when a bus went into a tree [somewhere between Chippenham & Box, on the A4] The tree was a substantial Beech or similar, and unfortunately the bus driver died at the scene [despite the attentions of first aiders and the ambulance crew].
Mother hated driving along there in bad weather after that, as you might expect.
She also insisted that I kept up with my first aid certificates, including always carrying a kit with me when travelling.
