Star Trek TV series(es) - general discussion of the franchise

Season 4 of Enterprise was the best especially the 2 double episodes (one set entirely in the Mirror Universe and the other with the genetic supermen) some other good episodes were there as well. Season 3 was OK with Xindi story arc though the mandatory "Cowboys in Space" episode was a bit WTF?
Season 1 & 2 were patchier but still the odd good episode, I thought pilot was better than the TNG one.
TNG Season 1 was meh and Season 2 was fairly shite but there was a sudden massive burst in quality in S3 which completely changed things.
I reckon had Enterprise done the full 7 Seasons people would see the later ones in a positive light

Don't think i got as far as s4 with enterprise. It got into time travel wars iirc?

The Temporal Cold War plot started in the pilot and appeared on and off throughout the series until ending in the first two episodes of S4 (another Nazi's won WW2 story) it was a bit daft tbh and spoiled more than one potentially better episode.

And it immediately improved. As you said 4 was good but I remember it as being nearly all multipart stories and that suited it well.

As the missus has a Paramount+ subscription and they appear to have the rights to the entire ST franchise, I’ve just decided to start Deep Space Nine- somehow the only series I hadn’t watched a single episode of yet.

I think that was partly because the few episodes of Voyager I’d seen left me distinctly underwhelmed. But I’ve been told by multiple ST fans that DS9 is where the smart money is.

The first episode looks a bit pedestrian so far, but then the very first episode of TNG was utter shit, so I am more than prepared to give this the benefit of the doubt.

Do Trekkers in on these boards concur with my friends’ opinion that DS9 is among the best ST shows ever made?

when a familiar face turns up it get very good :)

There are three decent episodes even in S2 "Elementary, Dear Data", "The Measure of a Man" and "Q Who?" The rest aren't worth bothering with especially "The Outrageous Okuna" which is basically a Hallmark romcom.

Years after I’d become a fan of TNG from catching episode repeats from random seasons in no order whatsoever, I saw they were showing the very first one. Fuck me, I’m glad that wasn’t the first ever episode I got to watch, because it is such a steaming pile, I would have probably refused to check out any other episodes :D

Yeah forget farpoint. settle down with a classic episode like up the long ladder or code of honour.

That was the first TNG episode i saw and i didn't watch any more at the time. It was only after i got into voyager that i went back and gave it another go.

It's kind of a shame D.C. Fontana did the original script but Gene took it and completely rewrote it adding in all the Q stuff. The basics of the original story sounds kinda good. Reminds me of Farscape.

The original premise involved the Enterprise and the USS Starseeker approaching an alien lifeform captured by a race called the Annoi and turned into a weapon. After the Annoi told the Starfleet ships to surrender, the Starseeker opened fire and was destroyed, while Troi contacted the alien and convinced it to crash on a nearby planet so that the Enterprise can help it to free itself along with rescuing other prisoners the Annoi were using as slaves on the surface

Strange New Worlds is fantastic, those of you who remain unsure whether to try it. Great (and beautiful) cast, episodic nature, loads of the feel of TOS, some terrific acting and time spent on the main players' backstories, appropriate fan service...and a musical episode coming at the start of August :D

Really want to see this but am not going to fork out for another streaming service.

Selling it, definitely selling it…

And now you’re not!

In the whole history of TV shows, the only one-off musical episode that has ever been any good was from Buffy. Everyone else fucks it up.
