The reality tv megathread

My daughters introduced me to Love Island, around season 2. They've moved on, and moved out, but I'm still here, hooked on this scripted nonsense. (Although Joey Essex's appearance this year might well be the nail in the coffin for me, what were the producers thinking )

Also like those stranded-somewhere-freezing-and-remote-survival-type reality shows, there's one on Netflix at mo', 'Outlast' or something, set on the shore of somewhere in Alaska. I swear, it took one team 6 days to light a fire. Six days! In Alaska! No fire! Ffs, how hard can it be?

Just the chance to shout at the telly I reckon.
Really enjoy Outlast. Half way through season two. Season 1 was great, only women lasted to the end!

Not touching Love Island with bargepole... 🏝️

I watched a couple of series of Love Island, ordered the water bottle then got bored.

I rinsed the Mormon Wives way too quickly.
Now think I need a blue coat for Halloween. 😄

Big Brother is back soon and the constant feed is coming back too.

Remember Fight Night?

Also nothing will ever better celebrity BB 17. It was the best - I still say 'babe, tea and coffee is everything' :D

The actual constant feed?! not just like midnight onwards...?

I've started on Below Deck :D

felixthecat I became weirdly obsessed with Say Yes to the Dress during lockdown :D It was actually quite a nice mindless comfort watch for me and the daughter during a period of intense anxiety. So repetitive and low-stakes ridiculous, it was very soothing.

I love Alone. Have watched 8 seasons of it now, I think. The only reality TV show I've seen where not one but two contestants have poisoned themselves by eating too much rendered-down beaver fat. :D

That sounds like my cup of tea, do you happen to know where I might be able to stream it?

Channel 4 has the English version.

The best ones are the American ones though imo as the contestants tend to he either fucking hardcore Armageddon preppers who think nothing of hunting a musk ox. Or working with Nature vaguely hippie types who often do surprisingly well.

We get that via NOW TV.

Looks like the History Channel have the first couple of seasons for free Epona .It really gets good around the third or fourth season imo. Prize is right up to a million dollars then.

Fight night= The golden age of BB.

I didn’t even watch CBB17 and I really want a ‘David’s dead’ t-shirt. 😄

As an update to this in case anyone else is interested, I've just seen an advert saying that Alone USA is coming to C4 streaming service "this autumn" :)

This discussion reminded me that I hadn't yet watched S2 of Outlast on Netflix - binged it on Thursday night and it was good viewing, but much tamer than S1 (which one contestant in that series declared had "gone a bit Lord of the Flies" )

Good series though, if survival reality competitions are your bag.

I do love Below Deck. Somehow I'm mid way through season 2 already.
Then you can watch all the spin offs. ❤️
Med, Sailing Yacht, Australia, Adventure. Have I forgotten any? 😄

I think the guests are more conscious they’re on tv now so slightly less obnoxious than the old days.

Dance Moms is too funny/puntastic sometimes - there's no way it's not at least partially scripted. My gd loves to watch it, and by watch I mean she spends most of the show dancing (she's 8) while I'm entertained by the absurdity and madness of entitled & privileged & rude af American women. It's a joy to watch and also great for getting angry and shouting at the TV 😂 (it's on E4)

Is this a new one, or is it the one that's been doing the rounds for a few years?

I used to watch it regularly, so many obnoxious people basically just in the same room together - it was the kids I felt sorry for (although some of them have had good careers out of it, probably not very normal childhoods however).

It's the old stuff - still on Season 2. There's plenty of heartwarming moments I'm finding, when the girls freeze on stage, forget their dances, but they don't give up, try again and suceed. I'm warming up to it... But yeah, the desperation to win is quite ugly! Americans are so competitive. I blame capitalism ;). My gd loves it so will be stuck with watching it when she's here.

It can be quite funny too, it makes me think of The Office sometimes... :D

We love this video so much, with Maddie watched it a few years ago...

C4 streaming has season 6 onwards of Alone USA.
Well worth a watch if you like this sort of survival stuff.
I watched S6 over the last couple of nights and have started S7.

I've got up early to binge BB so I'm up to date. Lily is certainly very lively.

Sarah keeps reminding me of the actor Ruth Wilson.

I've not been able to get into BB for years now, I just think it requires too much investment of time for the viewer.
At least for me to be able to get into.
