Star Trek: Picard [spoilers]

Worf's make up is dreadful

I have no idea what the plot is meant to be from the trailers. ANother confusing Alex Kurtzman storyline I suppose.

I'm sure it'll press all the right buttons and bringing back hologram Moriarty is definitely cool.

But Discovery is just shit

Apart from picard (which is on amazon prime) all star trek stuff is on paramount+ now.
Except lower decks which is on Prime
Except the reboot films also on Prime
Except TNG, Original Series, Voyager, animated series, DS9 and Enterprise which are on Netflix

all thats on paramount+ (Not sure about lower decks). If netflix still has some of those shows i guess its due to licences not expired yet.

Having googled it seems some stuff removed from netflix usa is still on netflix uk. I guess that won't last forever.

Yeah it was my understanding everything had left netflix for paramount but i think i must have read usa articles. I suspect the same will happen here eventually though.
Well I have just had a look at what P+ has to offer and it's going to need a bit more to even get me to sign up for a free trial.

First two seasons are really good, goes off the boil season 3

I subscribed to paramount+ for a bit when strange new worlds was on. I've stopped it for now until they have new discovery or strange new worlds on. Same as i do with disney for star wars shows.

I don't think i'm interested in strange new worlds enough . . . Discovery I know I am not interested in.
If they get something else good on there I might go for a weeks free trial to whack through a load.

Don't blame you for not being interested in Strange New Worlds given how dire Discovery and Picard have been, but SNW is in my opinion, the best Star Trek to have been made in at least 25 years.

Minimal serialisation, meaning you can jump in from week to week without having to know what's happened previously, and more importantly, they've just focused on telling tight, self contained stories extremely well, with a decent balance between the silly stuff, tense action and feel good moralising that characterised the original series and TNG.

I still wish they could do long form storytelling properly, but given they've failed miserably at that with Disco and Picard, I'm happy to have something I can finally enjoy.

That was in s1 but didn't all the s2 time travel stuff undo that? (May be wrong)
Who knows at this point. None of it makes the slightest sense. Season 2 was better, in that it was more coherent. But let's be honest Picard is just a strange melange of fan service and grim dark. I shall watch s4, I dare say I'll enjoy it. But I hope it's for the right reasons and that this time we have a good story. I don't think that is in the gift of those writing it.

Still, it's better than whatever else I don't like and it isn't about Brexit

Gah, I'm just so angry that they didn't do something more in line with Picards age and position. SO ANNOYING. Would have been cheaper too. Something all moralistic, some Columbo conundrum only someone of his wisdom could solve, or some alien diplomatic situation they need his help on . . one or two shot episodes, moral He-Man ending. Look both ways before you cross the road. Sherlock Picard and Data Watson? Fuck knows. Anything would have been better. I would rather watch a show about a man who grew futuristic grapes in space.

Wankers.

Discovery already did the bang bang, zap zap, dark, ongoing storyline trek, I'm fine with that I guess, but it just wasn't for me. . I got bored. . but they didn't shit all over Star Trek like Picard did.

so series 1 is robots, series 2 is time travel . . . what is series 3 (and 4)?
in theory there isn't going to be a season four.
But they've, the writers, have said that it's not 'the end of the TNG era' (whatever the fuck that means), so expect some kind of back door pilot episode for a series that probably won't fit made, ala Gary 7.

Regardless of whether they make any more TNG/DS9/Voyager era stuff, we already know that everything goes to shit anyway, because Discovery told us so, which rather spoils some of the messaging of hope and optimism that was so attractive about Star Trek in the first place.

Hope and optimism who cares. What we want is bleak with a side order of Vengeance again and again and again...

Wouldn't it be great to have something new. A brand new Space Opera ip.

Or at least some Trek with coherent somehwat uplifting storytelling. There's more than enough grimdark in the real world + whatever rubbish HBO wrings out of Song of Ice and Fire.

Why not reboot Streethawk?
