Sleaford Mods

Thought you might enjoy some recent footage of the guys at Supersonic Festival...

htt

I was slightly disappointed when I saw them recently, The PA was a house PA which meant it couldn't convey the anger and the (prefunctionary?) rhythms as much as was necessary, Williamson was incredible though and well worth the ticket price, fiver, a visceral performer who as in the vid above really would need a mouth guard in his mouth, he was a like a Dervish and looked like he nearly bust a blood vessel. The gig was packed with all the local faces, John McClure, etc, but imo, the audience who seemed more animated by the songs about tiswas, etc, than songs like Jobseeker. That's not the bands faulth though, I really like the recorded stuff though.

I don wonder where they will go next, at some points it became a bit Macc Lads without the misogyny.

btw it is weird going to see a band with forty somethings in it, who are more angry than the teenagers etc, in the latest bands, not only that, I remember seeing the Clash, Jam, Pistols, etc(was that genuine anger?)but I really didn't imagine at my age I would be going to see such bands now, thought it would be country/blues etc, from now on, infantalism?

Jason Williamson column in vice

European tours are different, obviously. You can do two nights at a push over a weekend period, providing flights and trains are good. It's fucking weird being in, say, a swanky Swiss town pelting it out on stage, then 24 hours later sat back at your desk, drinking moose piss coffee. The band is having a good break at the moment, so I don't mind touring because I know it's helping the cause. We've been in the papers, so you have to tour to put the proof in the pudding. In Europe the more you tour, the more regional promoters come forward with offers, so that helps form future bookings in otherwise new territories.

Workmates vary in their reaction to your music taking off. It depends on the person, really. There is a lot to be said for the non-careerist, the proletarian blue or white collar who comes in and fucks off home again, "ambition" to them a daft notion that is better suited to the white teeth on morning chat shows. The response from these people tends to amount to a decent level of respect and very few signs of envy, if any – so, you are spared the Mad Max-type arena every morning.

good show in Cardiff tonight, weirdly quieter than the middle band, Jelas from Vristol who were great, and blatant SM fans that prob follow them about singing along and punching the air

I'm a bit miffed that the only gig they are playing round here is supporting The Specials... for the best part of £50 a ticket :(

have they done them dates with The Specials yet?
I think that could have quite an effect on their crowd

Dates in November I think. I thought the same. Be interesting to see them in a 2000 capacity venue and to see how they go down...but not for £40+

couple of weeks time. Just saw them supporting The Pop Group. Hadn't been that convinced by them before, but they were pretty fine. Williamson certainly holds your attention. Mr Fearn knows nowt about Scritti Politti tho....

Great night - thought they were excellent - Williamson is great live, real presence. caught half the first support who were rubbish. The second support were superb though can't think there name. do wish mods played a longer set though.

Absolutely fucking awesome! Gritty, raw, fresh & frantic  They were on for a good hour or more, & did two encores, which had security in a flap. They're back in Brighton @ Concorde2 in May. Can't wait

<fingers crossed for a press pass>

One of the best days/nights of my 49 years on earth @sleafordmods

Haven't been following their affairs for awhile, so looked on FB/Twitter, seem to be still garnering great reviews and fans who say they are the best thing since the Pistols, Nirvana, etc, not sure about that.

btw, I suspect the audience at the gigs was 90% male...

There’s little here for a purely musical connoisseur, but an absolute lifeline for those severely dissatisfied with the modern culture of individualism, tiring nostalgia, incessant materialism and rife dishonesty. This is why I’m reluctant to classify tonight as a mere ‘gig’. This is more of a working-class art installation, without the depressingly pretentious undertones that phrase inevitably spews out.

Like the last sentence.

Yeah where does your assumption come from treelover ? Have you made it to one if the gigs?

Quite mixed crowd in Cardiff gig too as it goes

They were shit hot on Sunday when I saw them in Bristol and a very lively friendly crowd too. The support band - Sudden Infant - were pretty good as well.

I really enjoyed sudden infant - loved his tats! dud look them up on You Tube and think they're a band you'd be better off seeing live.
