Old fogey opinions on modern popular music amnesty

I’m inclined the other way most of the time, tbh, in that I can’t abide it when people only listen to music they liked when they were 19 and who have failed to get bored and move on to fresher musical pastures. The kind of people who listen to 6 Music and complain when it’s not to their taste. Make the effort ffs.

I don’t get annoyed by new music I don’t like so much these days as it’s so much easier to insulate yourself from annoying music. Autotuned vocals were overused the last time I paid attention (though I can think of plenty of good tunes that use it), and I wasn’t keen on that slow woozy hip hop made by folk whose name starts with Lil’ and who sound like they’re lying down to record their vocals, but I don’t expose myself to such stuff anymore nor do I live with anyone who insists on playing me such fare.

the best time i found for getting into 'new' music was the pandemic. i started listening to all the people i'd never bothered with much before, and emerged with a much greater appreciation for eddie cochran, elvis presley, little richard and chuck berry. not to mention haydn and mysliveček. however, i still like pretty much everything i listened to when i was 19. even if i listen to crass and conflict and the sex pistols rather less and bach and beethoven rather more. the last time i was in a mosh pit, it was at a hesperion xxi gig.
