Russell Brand: rape and sexual abuse allegations, grifting and general dodginess - discussion

Can I ask why that is not a permanent ban for his constant over the top misogynist behaviour which has been going on for years?
In recent times of covid and mental health issues, there's been a bit more leniency and amnesties here.

It's no excuse for bigoted/edgelordy/conspiraloons/trolling behaviour, but it does explain the presence of posters like himself. See also; several banned returners who somehow maintain a foothold here, despite having been banned under the "never" promise.

Unfortunately, having that sort of behaviour not dealt with decisively can leave other users feeling more vulnerable as a result.
I don't think COVID is a good reason for that.

I think threadbans are quite useful. Gets the poster away from the stink they've been causing and acts as a warning what will happen next.

Yes, if it is just a one off thing on a particular thread. But if they have been a misogynist (or insert other -ist or -phobe here where relevant) over multiple threads over multiple years, then why are they just allowed to carry on and on for years with just the occasional "get off this thread for a week" type thing?

Mod only knows.

Speaking of which, pretty sure we'll soon be reminded to take the discussion to the feedback forum...

The world's best sports masseur in the world wouldn't charge £500 per hour. Clearly a call girl

Is touching a call girl now becoming a police matter ?!

Holy fuck this is ridiculous

---

What's obviously going on is that everyone goes full confirmation bias and posts anything with the words sex + Brand. Can't people apply some critical thought per accusation?

You have decided with no evidence to say she's a "call girl" yet complain about others deciding Brand has some serious questions to answer.

Yes, touching "a call girl" is worthy of being a police matter if it was not consensual.

Yeah, looks like he's been going on GBNews to defend him:

Hopefully this won't lead to a multi-page discussion of how we're unfairly overlooking Jim Davidson's many virtues. Although not sure that would actually be worse than the rest of what's happening on the thread at the moment.
No. But he ended up facing no charges after being investigated by Yewtree, so fair enough for him to be talking on trial by media...(think I'd rather have Gambacini in my corner)

Hall of infamy of people/orgs who are defending Brand:

Andrew Tate
Elon Musk
Alex Jones
Tucker Carlson
Spiked!
GB News
Nigel Farage
Allison Pearson
George Galloway
Chris Williamson
Julia Hartley Brewer
Katie Hopkins

Any others?

Police probe after Brand sexual offence claims

The Metropolitan Police says it will investigate allegations of "non-recent" sexual offences following news reports about comedian Russell Brand.
The force has received a "number of allegations of sexual offences in London" as well as elsewhere in the country, and no arrests had been made.
It follows a joint investigation by the Sunday Times, The Times and Channel 4's Dispatches in which four women accused Brand of sexual assaults and rape.
Brand has denied the claims.
Det Supt Andy Furphy, from the Met's Central Specialist Crime Command, said: "We continue to encourage anyone who believes they may have been a victim of a sexual offence, no matter how long ago it was, to contact us.
"We understand it can feel like a difficult step to take and I want to reassure that we have a team of specialist officers available to advise and support."

That's frankly bollocks. Given how many people have been assaulted and/or raped and understandably not reported; or people that have reported and made matters worse by way of investigation and next to nothing conviction rate - do they really think that this will encourage people to onslaught sexual abuse claims in the hope that they'll be dealt with properly now, and that the police are set up to do that. Given the heroic clear up rate to date, that's laughable.

Apologies andysays my post was in relation to the Met's statement not the fact you'd relayed it.

Yeah, I understood that, and I agree with you.

I hope that the publicity around Brand leads to more individuals who he has assaulted coming forward, but I certainly don't expect this will suddenly lead to more victims of rape and sexual assault generally suddenly trusting that the police will deal with them as they should.

This is very good news, those brave women, hope each and every one gets the justice they deserve.

If they'd put "lol" at the end of that statement at least I'd have had a bitter laugh but also a thumbs up of their recognition of the scale of it.

He hopefully will get charged and go to prison, or his popularity and status among the loons will skyrocket.

No, but if he goes down for a while and so loses his social media access many people will either distance themselves or slowly forget him and move on.

Yeah the whole nature of the conspiracy sphere in general and his contribution to it in particular is one of constant frantic bandwagon jumping isn't it. As I understand it he puts out his videos incredibly regularly - remove that and he'll be yesterday's news very quickly, not some precious hero.

To a large degree because some other shithead will fill the hole though.

People hoping for a trial really need to think about what that might mean for "alleged" victims.

Well it's only likely to happen if the victims also want a trial.

I don't get your point? He shouldn't be charged as it'd be bad for the victims?
