Rugby Union 2017-18

biggest surprise is he's lasted this long!
I am pleased that the mighty Os in their decrepitude are responsible for his ejection. Losing against that current XXIII at home is one thing, shipping 40+ points is another magnitude of fuckup. Kind of like losing an honesty competition to Jeremy Hunt.

The guardian talking up Stuart Lancaster as his replacement. He'd be mad to take it, I would have thought. A dysfunctional club, a nutty owner, and a bunch of England's finest underperforming week in week out. Madness.

Just a thought if England's teams in the ECC fail to win this weekend, will the ECC have to be remade?

Fascinating interview with WRU Chair, Gareth Davies (he of my avatar fame) on the pressing need to reform governance of the game in Wales. What comes through clearly is his facepalmy disbelief at the self interest and villagist shamateurism that still dictates the game at the highest level. We basically have a board fit for the 1950s at best, but so much parochial vested interest in maintaining the status quo in order for Abercwmfuckoff to protect its ticket quota. I have no confidence in his getting his reforms through, which says everything you need to know about where we are.

The stark reasons behind this man's plan to rip up Welsh rugby

And in my second link of the day we have Paul Rees weighing in on the debate that I posted a couple of months ago regarding reducing substitutions to reduce injuries. Gareth Davies also features and makes some good points. Basically, we keep breaking players and more of the same but bigger and faster will just break more of them. Something has to give and I'd certainly rather seeing an XV on the pitch with no non-injury substitutions than I would a reduction to 13 men.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels uncomfortable watching players do real harm to themselves for what is at the end of the day just another form of entertainment, things do need to change and from what I've read reducing substitutions or having none at all seems the best option.

What a game last night. At points, Wasps were utterly electric and that's missing some of our best players. Le Roux has finally bedded in and is consistently delivering great performances.

Robson great as normal - surely the biggest mystery in English rugby today is how has he not been capped

And their "Let's bring North on early to stem the tide" failed somewhat too.

Care or Youngs for the 6N at scrum half?

Our miserable season continues with the news that Stephen Donald is our out half for the rest of the season. Ulster used to say No, now they say we'll make do.

Yes! Cracking result.
Absolute masterclass, dominant in every aspect of the game and playing with the usual panache. Incredible to think that they were missing their entire back three and their first choice 13.

Feels a bit like it did when the started to cut loose in the runup to the Pro14 title last season. On this form and with stuff starting to click I genuinely think they're capable of going all the way, especially given the relatively shaky performance of the big boys so far. I think they'll knock Toulon out next weekend.

You might be right, think last nights result (and hopefully a win again next weekend) would give the guys the confidence to go all the way.

Great to see what a quality coaching set up can achieve with a Welsh team.

Exactly that. They back themselves, their team mates and their gameplan and it allows them to play with their heads up. A real joy to watch.

Dour but compelling at the Library this evening. Looks like Saffas won't be defending their title in '18.

The gulf between the Os and Scarlets in attack was so magnified by this game. They didn't look like creating anything that could trouble the whitewash at any point for all their huffing and puffing. The two sides are basically playing rugby from two different decades

“Going all the way” is getting a bit carried away isn’t it? All that’s been achieved by this Scarlets team in the competition is 1 decent away win.

I said they were capable of it, not that they would, necessarily. On their day they're a match for anyone, imvho.
