Pubs open

This is a genuinely beautiful picture. Cherry blossom and beer-bubbles, the return of the light, 2021.
Can you MINGLE though or is everyone supposed to stay seated at their own table and the pints are served to you there so no talking crap to strangers allowed. I don't really see the point of that tbh, as you and your (max 6) table could meet anywhere.
?
Really? Do people do that? Have only ever gone to the pub alone or with mates, but rarely interact with others unless it’s a quiz or summat

It’s the place where I am considered a regular, they have new huts that are one household only and that is enforced, other than that it is six to a table, rule of six, but mingling is fine. Beer is a bit off, soft drinks are manky, but great to be out and about again. Whole town is full of people smiling, I haz haircut too 😀

My three nearest pubs all open today, even though only one of them has an outside area. I can't be arsed caring about it too much, but the pavement isn't really there for clogging up with drunks.

Less likely in big pubs in towns & cities, but perfectly normal in smaller/back street type places, and village pubs.

My fav pub in town is a micro-pub, it's about twice the size of my living room*, it doesn't even have a bar, the landlord and/or landlady just floats about chatting to people & disappear out back to pour pints when needed. It's like its their living room, and everyone tends to chat with anyone else in there, lovely atmosphere.

My fav village pub is also lovely, go in alone & up for chatting, pop yourself on a stool at the bar, and you are soon chatting away to others.

Proper real pubs IMO.

* ETA - actually, thinking about it, its not even twice the size of my living room, as anyone on the Worthing urb meet-up a couple of years ago would confirm, we couldn't all fit in there!

Plus the door is proper cool.

The pub in this village not open yet, the one across the fields in the next village is open for bookings, but would feel like a lemon going on my own. Doubt I will go for a pint until I can just walk in without booking etc, and until some mates are down

They still remember me at mine, or a few do, even though I've spent most of the last twenty years abroad. Some of them still reckon they've just not bumped into me for a while and no-one gives a shit about your world tour :D

Same when I get down to Somerset and pop into my old local, I get people saying 'blimey not seen you for a while', err, that's because I moved to Sussex over 20 years ago. :D

I worked with the landlady of mine at another pub in town way back when and we went out together for a while as teens :D Small towns!

I would hate that. I bring a book and a music in my ears if I go to the pub on my own

One thing I don't get is the why a couple of pubs near us can do takeaway** pints, even before they're allowed (here in Wales) to open their exteriors -- 26th April onwards

** 'takeaway' for one of them as in only as far as a few yards, where people have been gathering and lingering in groups since the sun's been shining a fair bit ... :hmm:

Really wanted to go for a pint (we'd said since pubs were shut on my 50th we'd go on 12th April instead) but our local was absolutely rammed and there was very little standing room in their outside areas, let alone somewhere to sit, it was all very close quarters and didn't feel safe.

I got a bit emotional and had a cry (a lot of pent up feelings about COVID, lockdown, missing my birthday, feeling isolated, worrying about the future and work/money etc).

We'll try to go out Wednesday instead.

Crowds queue as pubs open at midnight with lockdown easing Crowds queue as pubs open at midnight with lockdown easing

A blanket with the pubs logo on available for a fiver, to keep you warm while you drink cold beer in the sleet.
Two pints of lager and a blanket please :D
That's ridiculous, I've not adverse to a convivial drink myself but if you just want alcohol you can get it from the offie and drink it at home. The idea of going to the pub is to drink with friends and chat about how things are with everyone. Sitting outside the pub and having a meal with family and friends is great on a nice sunny day, doing it at midnight in the cold and dark is more like survival training.

I had to give a mate a lift over to Brighton hospital for an appointment, got back to Worthing just as the seafront bars were opening, an opportunity that clearly couldn't be missed, so a couple of pints in the warm sunshine & a bit of people watching, it was lovely to see life starting to return to normal. :)

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

They were just having a laugh. It takes me back to way back when just having a laugh was a thing. Should be banned though obvs.
