There's some truth in that 'at least she was competent' cliche. I would rather have a vile PM who's doing what they're doing because they actually believe in it. At least it fuelled fierce ideological opposition. This utterly vacuous vileness with no obvious purpose other than the enrichment of yourself and your mates is even more corrosive, because it fuels such utter cynicism all round.
