Palestine solidarity demos in the UK

As per usual no trouble on the march. Not sure how big it was this time.
I am interested (asking for a friend: who is writing an article for me) what exactly were these alleged racist placards? I suspect strong over-reach here, following arrest of RCG supporter & the media offensive vs SWP pamphlet

I didn't see any trouble. Nothing in news about what placards said. There are always police with cameras on edge of these demos.

Report about worldwide protests.

I noticed in Spain its completely normal thing to do.

The crowd snaked through closed-off streets in the Spanish capital from Atocha train station to the central Plaza del Sol square behind a large banner that read: Freedom for Palestine.

At least six ministers from Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s cabinet also took part in the demonstration, five from the left-wing Sumar party, his junior coalition partners, as well as Transport Minister Oscar Puente of the prime minister’s Socialist party.

So in Spain the centre left government can have six ministers from the government on the march.

Unlike here. Where the centre left Labour party tries to stop senior people going.

Interestingly police this time were not pulling people over for placards saying Israel was committing Genocide. Saw them do this at an earlier demo.

I am a bit circumspect about what photos I take now as I do not want to get people in trouble.
I know what you mean: and agree. It is that we are very interested in how the Terrorism Act 2000 is being used currently

Labour aren't centre left; they're right wing.

Wrt to the debacle and shenanigans in the HOC yesterday eve: There appears to be an effort by some MP's and their supporters to weaponise the protests aimed at them over their stance on the events in Gaza in attempt to get them shut down. This thread by Owen Jones sums it up quite nicely:

An example:

What really happened:

But... but... they look terrifying!!!1111!!

Arms factories blockaded in Newcastle and Leicester today:

Also apparently charges dropped against two people who'd been facing prosecution from earlier Leicester actions:

And a last-minute protest held in Manchester tonight after it turned out BAE Systems were holding an event at the Museum of Science and Industry.

Cleverly here suggesting that constituents shouldn't be allowed to tell off the MPs representing them if it's a er ... mob ... (definition pending) on public land in their constituency who happen to be within earshot of their representative's house.

I'm left wondering who taught him what democracy is, if not the right for a citizen to collar their local rep to say their piece. If half a dozen people spot an MP in the local pub and peacefully tell them off is that okay or is it "clearly with the intention of distorting their future votes, that is unacceptable"? Apparently so, because according to Mr Cleverly there is only one allowable place for anyone to make a point:

“The ballot box is where people and organisations should make their views clear.”

Ah yes, that place where the pro-ceasefire view was famously all over the ballot in 2019, miraculously pre-empting the 2023 opening of hostilities, and will be again sometime in Summer 2024. Or maybe Autumn. Represented by ... who? Exactly?

Come on, 40-odd % of voters clearly cast their vote for Johnson-then-Truss-then-Sunak. Democracy clearly in action.

At the risk of cluttering this thread up too much with insta links, have had a quick look but not been able to find proper articles yet, apparently the BAE event in Manchester yesterday ended up being cancelled:

And another BAE recruitment event planned for Manchester has been cancelled:

Also, four more defendants having their charges dropped in Bristol:

They're reportedly at the demo on sat in Cardiff so imagine the press will be there trying to catch them out

Meanwhile James Nobrian/Obrien cries into his cornflakes about people saying Stamer is controlled by the Israeli state.
