Anti-Racist Counter Demos Summer 2024

What is it with Texans and their obsession with noncery?
In short?: they are nonces.

But you knew that.

*Stipulation: those Texans youth pastors is a good place to search If you want the full dreadful picture. A news report every day if you if care to look.

Dover today:

A crowd of more than 100 anti-racism protesters have gathered in Dover following reports of a potential anti-immigration rally in the town.

A BBC reporter at the scene said a group of five anti-immigration protesters with union jack flags were present.
Not seen a proper report from Portsmouth, but the Hampshire lot shared this:

Made it to the Bournemouth protest. Maybe 150-200 Reform outside the town hall and similar numbers of counter protesters on the other side. And large numbers of police in between. Pretty much the damp squid I expected, the right wingers grumble a lot about 'boats' on Facebook but no-one is up for a fist fight. Likewise not a lot of 'pro refugee' sentiment either.

No-one I knew was there, so I met up with my Swanage friend and walked down with her XR crowd as they had drums. My favourite placard was 'Don't blame immigrants just because your life is shit'. Pic courtesy of the Echo.

Apparently the far-right are putting out a vague call for things to happen "everywhere/every town" on September 28th. Looks like SUTR are doing counter-rallies pretty widely, the advice I'm hearing is to wait and see whether there's verified credible info that makes it sound like something's going to happen in your local area before bothering to get involved any counter-demo.

Portsmouth on the 28th:

Think there's also likely to be stuff in Liverpool that day but not seen much of a proper call for it.

didn't realise these were two different posters at first and was surprised that the fash had adopted 'we keep us safe' and basic anti cop security measures in their posters.

You obviously haven’t seen the 3 and a bit pages dedicated to fonts, here

🔥 LET’S DEFEND OUR COMMUNITIES AND KICK THE RACISTS OUT!

After the racist violence we saw across the UK & Ireland in the summer, ‘Tommy Robinson’ is once again bringing thousands of his supporters to London on October 26th.

We are mobilising to oppose them.

‘Tommy Robinson’ (real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon) uses his huge social media platform to call for mass deportations of immigrants, post racist and anti-muslim content, conspiracy theories and fake news, and is a vocal supporter of the violent zionist regime of Israel and its genocide against the people of Gaza.

In the summer he spread lies about the identity of the attacker in Southport, that sparked the worst racist riots in a century. Racist mobs enacted violent pogroms in communities up and down the UK and Ireland. Hotels housing refugees were burnt, and mobs smashed up and attacked migrant-owned businesses and homes. Many of the participants were chanting the same slogans used by the English Defence League and commonly heard at Tommy Robinson’s last London rally just a few days earlier.

WORKING CLASS COMMUNITY DEFENCE STOPPED THE RACIST RIOTS

When the racist mobs took to the streets and started terrorising our communities, community defence networks formed to mobilise against them.

Tens of thousands took to the streets from Harrow, Walthamstow, Finchley, Hackney, Croydon, Crawley, Bristol, Brighton, Rochdale, Liverpool, Manchester, Belfast, Hull, Birmingham, Sunderland and many more towns and cities. It wasn’t the police, politicians or media that protected our communities, it was us, collectively.

ANTI-FASCISTS & MIGRANT WORKERS UNITE

The far-right accuse migrants of stealing jobs and driving down conditions for British-born workers. The reality is the rich keep getting richer while workers, regardless of where they were born, continue to be exploited. We're joining the United Voices of the World (UVW) mass picket to build the solidarity we need to defeat racism and the systems that create it by setting workers against each other while stealing the wealth we create.

SUPPORTED BY: UVW UNION, BLM UK, PLAN C, AFN, RS21, BRIGHTON ANTI-FASCISTS, SCARF AND MANY MORE TBC

Big day out for TR’s supporters next week in London. Years ago there would have been a big thread about opposing it with lots attending.

Anyone up for it?

I've had an email from my union about a counter demo. Not sure if this is a Unite initiative or something broader.

Saturday 26th October, 11.30am, Piccadilly Circus. BE THERE.

Over the summer, sickening scenes of racist violence in our streets as thugs attacked libraries, mosques, and accommodation for asylum seekers brought shame to our nation. Members of Unite the Union are clear: migrants are not to blame for our communities being made poorer – the root of the problem is the suppression of wages, corporate profiteering, and political cuts to public services.

In their first attempt to assemble since their incitement of violent rioting over the summer, ‘Tommy Robinson’ and other extremists are planning to demonstrate in Central London on Saturday 26th October.

Racists taking to the streets to spread fear and division in our communities must always be defeated.

We are urging all our members to join another massive demonstration of anti-racist unity, and join us on Saturday 26th October to march against those who want to divide us.

Date:
Saturday 26th October, from 11.30am

Meeting point: Corner of Jermyn Street and Regent Street St. James, nearest tube station Piccadilly Circus

Unite is committed to promoting equality and fairness for all, and actively opposing prejudice and discrimination. As trade unionists, it is our duty to represent the values of unity over division, debunk disinformation, and ensure racism, sexism and any form of hatred has no place in our workplaces or communities. We encourage all members to stand together as part of this united working-class movement.

ETA appears to be the same as mentioned above by hitmouse

I'll be there in some form. Its the United Families and Friends Campaign march to Downing Street too. That's normally a relatively small and peaceful but sad and emotional event. Quite worried about the timing/location clash with the TR demo and his drunk fans kicking off at a bunch of grieving families.

That’s where I will be

I'm leaning towards probably not bothering going all the way to London for it, but still considering it, if I did go I think I'd want to get down on the Friday night so as to be able to do the museum guard picket in the morning. We did get an email from one of our members at work who wants to go asking about transport, so there is definitely some interest in it.

Have you got a link to that? I've heard it mentioned else where and think people are aware of the risks. I wasn't going to head over but I'm actually free next weekend so might be able too. I had a quick Google but couldn't see the details though I am pretty tired so probably not looked properly sorry!

The last TR thing seemed to be pretty well organised (unfortunately) with little actual trouble? Hard to tell who might go this time.
