November 9th 1938 Kristallnacht

i heard about this too, on haaretz.com although from what i could gather it wasn't "12,000 people" but rather a few thugs.

AP said:
BERLIN (AP) - Police say 1,000 high-school students broke away from a demonstration in Berlin demanding better training and occupied a building of the capital's Humboldt University.
The students threw toilet paper and newspaper from the windows during the short-lived protest Wednesday.
Police say the students vacated the building voluntarily after about 20 minutes and the university was able to quickly return to normal operations.

The main demonstration attracted some 7,500 students. No other incidents were reported.

Might have been this. It seems like they were just smashing everything tbf ...

So in a country that takes the Holocaust and the issues surrounding it VERY seriously ther was a 12 000 strong anti semitic demonstration in the capital on the anniversary of Kristalnacht and no one in the media reported it?

Even if he mainstream German media was controlled by anti-semitic lizards, the independents would have picked it up. Shall I go and trawl through them or is it just slanderous bullshit as I strongly suspect.

Ah, there were school strikes in Germany this week to protest at the frankly appalling standards of education in Germany and some protestors took direct action in a university building. Anti racists / anti fascists who have a positive position towards Israel would have been one of the groups organising the action.

12 000 strong anti semitic mob?
No.

No.

exactly

i just did a qucik search on google deutschland as well, and only those two articles came up, in english - like you said in germany of all places you would expect a little bit more than that

sounds like bullshit

<snip>Israeli policies? You do not know the first thing about Israel or its dangers and yet you feel knowledgeable enough to erase an entire nation. Bravo.
yawn. i know far more about many things than i can be bothered to share with an idiot such as you tbh. you're boring, bigoted and biased, i think that you do your 'cause' more harm than good. night night :)

It has NOTHING to do with racism or prejudice of any kind, AT ALL. Stripped of the perversions offered by old Adolf (sic) it simply means "extreme patriotism." Most happen to find THAT to be an admirable attribute, not soemthing to denigrate and belittle.

No, the thing is, it doesn't mean that at all and you are banned permanently for your relentless promotion of it, now.

So 9/11 11/9 I'm getting confused, can I just suggest a ludicrous conspiracy scenario to lighten proceedings?
No ok then

that's a different question as you well know. what do you want? a discussion about kristallnacht and why it happened and what we can learn from it?

or a discussion about why jews now are apparently under as great a threat now as then, because their crypto-fascist supporters cry wolf? you decide oh great one.....

My point is, you've identified the 'current' threat, but, it seems there is always some sort of threat. Curious, isn't it?

Not very curious when you consider that Jews are a minority, in history they've often been (out of necessity) better educated than much of the rest of the population, and have been prevented from integrating into the host cultures.

anti-israeli sentiment is sometimes linked to anti-semitism, people often use it as a cover, but in most cases it's not the same thing at all

most of the people you get on pro-palestine demonstrations aren't exactly queueing up to join the BNP

that said, the tone of many on the left (the "we are all hezbollah" shite is a prime example) does serve to alienate a lot of jewish people, and attract some pretty unsavoury characters

as jews around the world become increasingly hostile to israel's actions, that is changing - there is a growing recognition imo that you don't have to be a frothing at the mouth loon to oppose what the state of israel (as opposed to the spiritual concept) has become and what it represents

 you've got me there chief. haven't got a scooby what you're on about.

[Man in 2008]: those damn jews are screwing up in Palestine!

[Man in 1938] those damn jews are screwing up because.......

[Man in 1898]: those damn jews are screwing up...

i'm not arguing any of that, i just don't see what jc2 is getting at with his selective quoting and his leading questions is all.

Ishmaelis are a minority. Quakers are a minority.

both of whom have suffered persecution - ishmaelis especially

however, both of those appeared relatively late in history and are confined to a certain regional area - jews are pretty much EVERYWHERE in the world you go ;)

there's a difference between criticising the policies of a state, even criticising the circumstances in which it was brought into being, and criticising people because they're what easily comes to hand and what government leaders are encouraging you to believe.

Rach's usual lies and bullshit.

spot the difference:

"Israel's blockade of Gaza, building of settlements, and so on, are all illegal under international law. But what do you expect from a bunch of kikes?" - anti-semitism
"Israel's blockade of Gaza, building of settlements, and so on, are all illegal under international law." - not anti-semitism

"The Jews control American foreign policy." - anti-semitism
"The Zionist lobby exerts a disproportionate influence on American foreign policy, for many reasons. However, the relationship between Israel and America has sometimes been strained, and should Israel become more of a liability than a strategic asset, America would turn its back on it" - not anti-semitism

"It's obvious why things are so bad in Israel - just read the Talmud!" - anti-semitism
"Some Jewish fundamentalists encourage extreme interpretations of scripture and use it to justify violence" - not anti-semitism

"Jews have been kicked out of every single country in the world. There must be something wrong with them. We should kick them out too!" - anti-semitism
"Jews have been persecuted in most countries in the world, for a variety of reasons, usually political and economic" - not anti-semitism

"Jews are trying to undermine the fabric of society by supporting revolutionary movements" - anti-semitism
"Jews have often been at the forefront of left-wing groups, mainly because of their history and position in society as an oppressed group" - not anti-semitism

"The holocaust never happened, jews eat christian babies, blah blah fucking blah" - anti-semitism
"The holocaust did happen and babies that went missing in medieval times or died were often blamed on Jews" - not anti-semitism

;)

Don't get me wrong on this, esp. as I've had rachamim18 on ignore for a good few months, but did U75 really just ban a Jew for voicing an unpopular opinion on a Kristalnacht thread?
