Northern Ireland 2017 election

I can't get my head around these fucking idiots who still voted DUP after everything that they've done over the past few years. As a wiser person said their whole mentality is 'better to be robbed by a Prod than ruled by a Catholic'. This place fucking depresses me sometimes :(

Astonishing how little you hear about it, you'd think Northern Ireland didn't exist

I wouldn't give a fuck about it if I was English either. Yet you have complete and utter numpties here who claim they're as British as tea and crumpets and think they have an integral role within the United Kingdom. Do we fuck I think it costs the U.K. treasury 12 billion a year in a block grant to keep this failed statelet afloat.

There was a recent study that said a United Ireland would be 36bn a year better of economically than the current situation. The British government should do the right thing and just give up its claim on Northern Ireland and give it back to the Irish people.

tbh, things (N)Irish could soon start to play a great deal more visibly in the rest of the UK.

True, it's funny how the Governemnt suddenly starts caring when it comes to Brexit and having a land border with another EU country yet don't give a fuck when it comes to austerity, job cuts, social housing, wage stagnation, political corruption and the just all round general shite that goes on here.

If NI only depresses you sometimes N_igma I can only say that you're a natural optimist. Tell me, does it really look like Eamonn McCann is gone?

Aye mate not looking well he was on TV there saying his chances are slim. I'm surprised that Sinn Fein have done so well in constituencies that they done poorly in last time and constituencies where I thought PBP and others would've looked to capitalise even more this time round.

Alas it seems the Shinners have managed to get their voters back and indeed even increase their share they'll be very happy tonight.

He might not even live to see the next round. He must be over 70 by now, surely?

He sure is, been around since the start of the Civil Rights Movement but looks fairly spritely for his age. Just goes to show genuine true left wing politics is a long way off from coming to fruition here.

Seeds have been sown though, once the memory of the troubles fades and a younger generation comes through we might start to see changes. Just the wrong place and time for ole Eamonn.

I think that's the current plan  wait till the current generation die off and it can be passed onto south with the minimal of hassle.
Nobodys brave or stupid enough to try it at the moment and I doub

Amazing isn't it, when you think about all the 'blood and treasure' poured into holding onto Ireland/bits of Ireland by the British state.

tutorial level for the empire
ignored after the 20s and when it kicked off again there really wasn't an option to hand it over ireland couldn't hold the north and a sectarian fight wasn't going to succeed

Northern Ireland folk being careful the desire for a United Ireland tends to vary a lot based on economics. I recall seeing a poll last year with Northern Catholic support for it was at an all time low of 27%. It's moved up but the latest poll I've found has it at 22% overall. The Brexit yoke may be bad for the North but looks to be a economic disaster for the RoI. We'll reach peak Papist in a decade as Northern Catholic women's ovaries are no longer devoted to serving the Vatican thanks partly to the good works of SF's liberation codology. Young Ulster Prods are if anything waxing stauncher. Provided the UK doesn't sink under the waves I suspect the English tax payer will be paying our ungratefully received Bru checks, really nice Quango salaries and Ash For Cash type Stormont beanos for a long time coming.

Though I did see some figures that 33% of volatile Tories support the ejection of the rather more economically viable Scotland from The Union so it might be more likely to happen that way as they wheel around looking for something else to blame than a freshly amputated Brussels. Given the Six Counties costs about the same as the entire UK annual contribution to the EU being ejected like a ripe Loyal to Lizzie tramp into the poor old RoI's garden of economic terrors would be nicely ironic footnote in the death march of the British nationality.

The result was never really in doubt, SF and DUP were going to be returned as the largest two parties, only question was bye what margin. The interesting part is what happens next. I can't see the DUP kicking Foster out so what are SF going to do, will they going to backdown and go into coalition with the DUP or refuse to form a government.
