Liverpool bomb incident 14/11/21

One could speculate from this that the Taxi was hired to go to the Cathedral to do this, but that the Driver refused and ended up pulling in at the Hospital, in an argument, and refusal, and thus stopped a very serious incident.

That was my first thought, that the remembrance service was the intended target, and the driver diverted to the hospital's car-park.

According to the tabloids the passenger asked to be taken to the service at the cathedral, but the roads were blocked off, so he then asked to be taken to the city centre and just before 11am told the driver to pull into the hospital as they went past.

The investigation is being led by counter-terrorism police who are being assisted by Merseyside police and MI5.

NWCTU: Diligently combing through evidence (Usual_Suspects01.xls, Usual_Suspects02.xls and Usual_Suspects03.xls)

Merseyside Police: Perimeter tape arts & crafts, coffee runs, inappropriate selfies and WhatsApp chatter

MI5: Advising NWCTU which people not to speak to and what not to ask them

Liverpool Women's Hospital is only about 4 miles from where Mrs Q's parents live, (all of her siblings children were born there). Sefton where the raids are happenig is even closer. Her sister and niece have already been and rubbernecked this morning though apparently Plod are unsurprisingly taking a firm line against that. Sister Stroppy Scouser has no more idea than anyone else what's happening but has never been one to a let a complete lack of facts stand in the way of a good story.
if she does come through with some real actual details I will share them but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

The GMP are in charge of terrorism in the North West, so you'd expect suspected terrorism incidents to be dealt with by them.

No Terrorism sits with the National counter terrorism network and specifically regional Counter Terrorism Units which are mostly regional police but also agencies you’d expect, like Security Service but also some you might not, Fire Service NHS etc. Our Network | Counter Terrorism Policing

It may well be GMP are supporting Merseyside with and press office work as that would most likely sit with the local force rather than than the CTU in the first instance.

Given how small the blast seems to have been, I wonder if it was only the detonator that went off, and not the main charge.

I'd think unlikely to have a proper detonator and main charge, and be some more Heath Robinson homemade affair that hopefully went off slowly like a cheap firework. Car looked more burnt out than in pieces from a big bangy thing.

It’s physically in GMP but it’s led by the National Network. It’s a fairly controversial constitutional point as effectively the country has a new ish National policing organisations that lacks the oversight of say the NCA or a geographic police force. This wouldn’t be such an issue if the network was actually led by regional forces / chief constables like the various ad hoc ‘new’ regional crime units ( not that they are called that) are. There is a significant accountability/ governance gap in CT policing.
