Libya - civil unrest & now NATO involvement

From BBC live feed

Word emerging now of a possible replacement for Col Gaddafi if indeed the Friday factor works against the hard-pressed Libyan leader and he is forced out. Al-Jazeera TV says talks are taking place between "personalities from eastern and western Libya to form a body to govern the country".

:D what th'ell happen? We all know the Americans like cheap Gas Prices... That why they invade countrys to liberate them... :)

Just a report on them in AJE. They might use the time on Bahrain, or Yemen, or Algeria, or Iran or Iraq or Mauritania (that's right it's not a made up country, they are out on the streets ) or Saudi Arabia (kicking off 3pm today).

Or Morocco or even Egypt or Tunisia.

Kenyan authorities have denied the claim of MG's former chief of protocol that Kenyan ex-military are among the mercenaries in Libya:

However, in Zimbabwe -

Speculation that members of the Zimbabwe National Army are in Libya to help prop up cornered dictator Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, has gained momentum.

This follows Zimbabwe's Defence Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa avoiding giving a straight answer to a question posed in Parliament.

That link also quotes a London based Libyan activist who says that MG may be getting ready to flee to Zimbabwe. Mugabe's already sheltering Mengistu, the former Ethiopian dictator, so 'Comrade Bob' does have form in that area.

Curiouser and curiouser, said Alice.

OK this time he is speaking at green square, to quite an audience, telling the youth to dance, sing and stay up all night. Green flags, yada yada,

The crazy fucker has made a personal appearance in Martyr Square, i guess he is serious about dying there.

edit: should have refreshed before posting that.

Or using the networks that he controls to get there on a day when the media is allowed in. What's happening on the outside decided this - not this.

All the techniques used to make the crowd look bigger btw - no long distance shots. Looks very shallow when they go up a little bit, vans rather than people filling the back pic. Why?

As an aside, the BBC have sent Ben Brown to the Tunisia/Libya border. Wonder if he'll notice any wheelchair bound protestors attacking soldiers?

I don't know if it's the green flags but there is something about the film quality of some of his supporter rallies that reminds me of leprachauns and brigadoon.

AJE are saying today's look very sincere. I haven't thought the same on previous ones.

I haven't seen any (permitted) media in Tripoli. Has anyone else?

I posted something yesterday, from either the BBC or the Guardian, about 9 italian journalists that were invited to Tripoli and it went a little bit wrong when nobody met them at the airport and one of them got punched at a checkpoint.

Easily done. Who of us hasn't made the same gaff.

They're sincere whilst focused in on 20 people. Look at the back of the pics, there's roads running and vans/coaches parked - the depth is nothing. It's like a free community festival. Not enough to win fuck all frankly.

Yeah it seemed to be hundreds rather than many thousands.

Anyway he hasnt got that much of a deathwish as he didnt hang around very long.
