God, we could write a template for rambling speeches of crumbling despots. They are so predictable.
Repeat the same tedious empty phrases over and over again in as a rambling incoherent manner as possible
Alternatively praise and threaten the people you are killing.
Blame everything on a bizarre conspiracy involving assorted foreigners, terrorists, Islamists, colonial powers, Israelis, drugs, alcohol, KFC, etc
Promise to die on native soil and to fight to the last man etc
Promise "reform" and blame others for "mistakes etc.
It's like they all went to the despot school of outer space speech making

At first I thought he was speaking from a wrecked multistory car park, but now I understand it was one of the buildings bombed by America, perhaps one of his palaces.
Apparently Hilary Clinton is going to give a response in a couple of hours. Difficult to know what she will say as America is being touted as the big enemy, along with Britain.

I don't think him burning the oil wells would be strategic. He seems like one of those deranged autocrats (I not invoking Godwin!) who cannot separate the country from himself, so he may well go for a scorched earth policy to spite his naughty mice/children or whatever. That's what I thought he was threatening in that bizarro speech.

I think his next step will be to order his security forces to quell the demonstrations using whatever force is necessary. And then we will see if they are prepared to do it, or not.
I am hoping not (obviously), there seem to already have been lots of defections from Gaddafi, pilots, soldiers in Banghazi, overseas diplomats etc .. Perhaps he cannot trust the army, which leaves whatever the mercenaries are prepared to do.
I heard on one broadcast that he has some Serbian mercenaries who fled there after the war, they were thought to be very loyal, they haven't anywhere else to go.
