Libya - civil unrest & now NATO involvement

couldn't see an english translation but Fidel Castro continuing the run of Left-wing "friends of the people" who are supporting their authoritarian mates over the populations of their country

In that statement you posted Fidel Castro doesn't make a statement supporting Gaddafi. He makes that point that the Western powers like the Libyan oil rather than its people or their freedom

Saudis wont allow the US to get involved blatantly .The middle east would erupt

If Mubarak hadn't been got rid of first ..I wonder if he would have seen this as an opportunity ? ...Its not as if the Egyptians haven't done this before ..... whats arabic for anschluss?

Isn't this being discussed by the UN Security Cancel today? I can really see China and Russian condemning the atrocities in Libya committed by the military against their own people

It's a video depicting a massacre that presumably Gaddafi carried out so some parts are NSFW (altho from what i can tell its not real images) but Anyone know when this happened / have a translation of the song?

Army having guns taken - suggestion they're mercs (apols if already posted, i've lost track).

Interesting, I hadnt seen that one before.

What a mess. I should probably clarify that although Ive been going on about race etc issues quite a lot in the last 18 hours, this doesnt mean I dont buy into the mercenary stories at all. Im pretty sure that a lot of the rumours about 'mercenaries are about to land at the airport near our city' are driven by fear more than fact, but that doesnt mean its not happening.

There's been a lot of chatter on Twitter about medical conveys coming from Egypt. I got the impression that they were being organised by mosques but reporter on Al Jazera just stated that the Egyptian doctors and medical unions have organised them

It doesn't appear uncommon for African countries to use mercenaries. (and there are/were shitloads of them in Iraq on 'our' side)

There were a lot of calls for them from Egyptian tweeps. (that's the term, right) Whether they were instigating them or tweeting in response to calls made from medical unions or mosques or what I don't know.

Report from AJE Malta that Italy is 'watching' a Libyan naval 'asset' off the coast of Malta. No contact has been made with the ship.

AJE banner say UN council is to consider a no fly zone.

and 5 minutes later AJE are saying that the no fly zone is not being considered by the council.

Broad story from Libya is Army has largely switched sides, heading for Tripoli. Air force is controlled by Gaddafi's own tribe, bombing army

Gaddafi is due to make a statement shortly, his 'supporters' have been chanting and waving placards while the world news outlets wait for him to appear.
