Just Stop Oil

tbf, that would be a better target. people actually watch it on tv (for some weird reason). and the smug fucks running for charities they've never even heard of quite probably work for big corporations.

what next? crufts?

I think the animal rights lot already had a pop at Crufts several years back didn't they?

i'm not saying they don't have a point but disrupting an early game of a snooker championship is just going to get them labasted not raise their cause in the public conscience

more make them look silly :/
Some of these stunts are silly, for sure, but I don't get the impression they care about the public's viewpoint on them or whether they look silly, the point is to make a spectacle with the words "Just Stop Oil" attached. And if they're lucky they then get asked why they're doing it. I do have a certain respect for the complete lack of giving a shit, regardless of whether they're sometimes a bit irritating with it - they show a lot more gumption than most activists in that sense, even if it is based in a bit of a Cult of the Apocalypse vibe.

Agree with most of this. All protests that manage to get attention always have people saying they’re doing it the wrong way but the fact that snooker will be on the front or back pages of most newspapers today shows something.

Even if they get what they want and the UK government stop any new licences for oil exploration what difference will that actually have on global warming?

It’s not about making a difference to global warming.

I can’t get very far beyond the first word of their slogan ‘just’.
Related to matters of justice it is ok, but in this context ‘just’ is a crap word, like ‘professional’ or ‘obviously’.

It's there because they wanted three words, each with one syllable.

Total daftness. The cloth of a snooker table is sacred ground. defacing things like that makes you look silly.

It's a good job Big Bill wasn't playing or even worse, Alex Higgins. The silly boy would have been litterally knocked out in the first round.

Lol no it isn't. Honestly the hyperbolic squeaking from people about relatively minor disruptions to leisure activities has in many cases been considerably more obnoxious than the action itself.

I mean at least there was an argument of sorts about the blocking of motorway traffic, this is just "oh noes, my sitting doing nothing time."

End result is that life is bit more shit for everyone, though. They manage to ruin a night out that quite a lot of the audience will have been really looking forward to? And no doubt there will now be more security at events, so everything is just that little bit more shit.

I have much less respect for the choice of such a soft, cause-irrelevant target. Snooker fans are not the enemy.

They don't really do themselves any favours do they? I mean, I'm no snooker fan but this just makes them look absolutely insane. Why?

Is turmeric-bombing the new thing now? :D

Well if they're into turning nice pristine green things a funny colour - Wimbledon centre court?

Is Cazoo a factor here? I'd never even heard of them. I think they got decent publicity out of this.

The picture of the guy screaming out like a nutter does them no favours. People just think 'nutter'. The orange bomb on it's own would have far more impact without him making it about him with his mouth open.

There are just so many reasons to ignore the issue at hand aren’t there!!

these match cloths are replaced daily. I know this because the commentators always tell you this when mentioning how much faster they play than yer average snooker hall baize. I enjoy snooker- one of the few sports I will make time to watch- but I enjoy a functioning ecophere more so fair play.

I think their argument to that is ultimately we are heading towards much more than just a bit more of a shit life if nothing is done.

I think stopping new Oil is the first step of their demands so that makes some sense I guess.

I wonder if the seemingly random nature of their attacks keeps them hard to track. Like everyone knew it was going to kick off at the racing at the weekend so security was tight and even with 100's of people trying to get in the impact was limited.

I agree their optics aren't great, but I really don't think they give a shit and I sort of respect their puritan approach as someone else said earlier.

I do find it hard to moan about tactics when I've literally given up on the environment and think we're fucked. I'd do it differently I think, but I'm doing fuck all anyway.

I also think they have been getting their day in court to make their point which they have been and seems important to them.

It isn’t possible to ignore the protestors and the message behind what they do and the issues they highlight, I simply wish they were better at it and didn’t have such a poor slogan.
