Israeli forces storm Gaza aid ship, and beat people on board. Fatalities reported.

More like *fanny* la rouge!

However, on BBC Breakfast news at about 6.45am, a very bizarre report about events kept referring to Israeli forces "trying to control" the people they were beating and killing. It took me a while to understand the report. It was an outrageous and sickening example of bias.

I have complained. http://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/homepage/ If you saw it, I urge you to complain also.

In what other circumstances would storming and aid ship and beating and killing those on board be called "trying to control" them?

I've just read about this. Pretty much saw it coming..Utterly utterly sickening.

Radio 4 have said it happened in International Waters. The Radio 4 report was straightforward and didn't strike me as biased. Every time I inadvertently see news on the telly I am always struck at how shallow & showbizzy it seems. All whizz, flash-bang graphics and monosyllabic. The Radio 4 report has left me with a clear impression; the Israeli commandos boarded ships in International waters and fired on people on board, including crew.

Al Jazeera also says it's in international waters

agree entirelyu about TV news, btw, but just sometimes pictures are useful. Usually a clear spoken description is far, far better though.

I just had to listen an Israeli "defence spokesman" claiming the activists attacked them with "knives " etc .

Unfucking believable, as so often with Israel . When are we going to start a proper cultural/economic/academic boycott of the rotten bastards ? Nothing will rein them in for a long as their geo-poitical importance remains, so putting pressure on the decent minded Israeli's via a comprehensive boycott is one of the few options we have surely ?

Sick fuckers, the boat was trying to bring in much needed supplies.

According to the UN Israel only permits 1/4 of the good required to enter. How can the US back a country that is doing its best to starve a people?

Yup, all very nasty.
There is a thread in world politics.

I wonder how the Turks will feel about having their citizens slaughtered in international waters. That's an act of war isn't it?

I hope that the world does take notice. Would have hoped that the world already was though?

Turkey is far from happy, how will the West react though? Sanctions?

Is there mention of what nationality those killed were? It says most on board were Turkish.

Surely they can't get away with killing non-Palestinians so easily? Surely? Surely?

Can't see any confirmation on nationality yet.

I wonder how the meeting between the Isreali prime minister and Obama will go tomorrow in the US?

The news here (Portugal) is saying that the flotilla had been warned not to approach Gaza, that they had been offered overland routes via Either Israel or Egypt. A 'leader' of the flotilla is saying, in an interview, that the intention was to 'break the blockade' and that 'humanitarian aid was not the objective (of the flotilla)'. She is also saying that she doesn't know if any shots were fired but doesn't know who attacked who. The video broadcast here shows only fighting with no clear indication of who did what or to whom. The Israelis are claiming that they were attacked.

The TV footage on that BBC link really is appalling - 'ofcourse the Israeli army is very experienced at dealing with crowd control..' - deary deary me.

Disgusting (the incident itself and the subsequent reporting*).

*And most likely the lack of any action against Israel for it, too.

He was due to meet Obama on Tuesday. But Bibi may cancel his trip. He better. What could he say to justify this? It would put Obama in an impossible situation.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is considering the cancellation of his imminent trip to the United States, in wake of the deaths of at least 10 people after Israel Navy troops boarded a flotilla of ships heading to the Gaza Strip carrying aid.

This post is contradicted by the news reports here on Portuguese TV, and by the interview with one of the so-called humanitarian activists from Turkey.

So if he cancels his meeting with Obama will the problem just go away. Or does he want some time to falsify evidence before meeting?

Even the so called leader of the flotilla is saying that they had been warned for some days not to try to break the blockade, and is saying that the intention was not humanitarian aid but to break the blockade. In these circumstances the outcome was easily foreseeable, and it was foolhardy to ignore the repeated warnings given, which she admitted they had received and chosen to ignore.

I am not saying that this action is right or acceptable, but that it could very easily have been avoided.
