Is there anything finer for making cheese on toast than an eye level grill?

Time and place.

And to be honest, I don't really do cheese/vegan cheese on toast any more because my low level grill is useless.

HOWEVER. this is bloody ace

Is it cheese on toast though if there is bread on top?
I'm not convinced.
It's more a cheese toastie.

I do like a grilled cheese sandwich done in the frying pan tbf. which isn't strictly cheese on toast either.

i'd argue 'no' and agree with

although aware this could end up in a big (toasted) bun fight...

i invested in a sandwich toasting thing when my grill packed up (moving house has been a possible for a few years, and i didn't think it was worth replacing the cooker) but it does mean that a 'something on toast' where it needs grilling is now not an option

:(

Oh I agree. But if I can't have a decent cheese on toast, then a fine toastie will have to do.

I see the convenience of an eye level grill but if I bought one, every time I entered the kitchen I would cry at its hideousness. Many years ago, I lived with a friend who had one, and it was rank (to be fair, his arthritis was really bad and he couldn't clean much).

I make cheese toasties in the oven grill and it is not comfortable. It would be nice to have an in-built unit higher up.

It's between cheese on toast and a full saturated fat grilled cheese done in the frying pan in butter for me, nothing in the middle of those 2 quite makes the grade :D :o

That looks brilliant. Never heard of/seen this before. I might have to get one.

Can you do anything else in it? I don't know what, but I imagine some clever folks on the internet have come up with alternative uses for it besides sandwiches. Maybe?

I bet you could do a small omelette in it.
(I don't have one btw so maybe don't try this at home!)

Yes, splendid for cheese on toast.

I did sausages on one in the halls of residence at college and set all the fire alarms off, however. Possibly unfair to blame that on the grill tbf.

I think it's a legitimate topic for debate. I'm just miffed that my old cooker got taken away by The Man and the one I've got now is fucking useless for grilling purposes.

You should have put a lock on your kitchen door…

I make cheese on toast often and have a cooker that's probably about 50 years old.

I prefer it for the opposite reason as you mention OP, it's good to bend down and move around etc to keep checking. Moving around is better than staying still imo unless you're asleep.

If it's 50 years old then I hope you've had a Gas Safe registered engineer check it over.
