The 'one child policy' of 1979 is causing big problems however from what I gather from a Chinese friend of mine. When parents get old the pressure on the children is huge and although relatives try to help it remains difficult as they may live far away. All in all the progress made is off the scale despite the lack of democracy, we type and post here thanks to China when it comes down to it! Can you imagine life without Chinese products and technology? France tried with Minitel but where is that today.
