Is Elon Musk the greatest visionary or the greatest snake oil salesman of our age?

Added to that, the Hayekian strain of neoliberalism is not that far from fascism anyway. See Hayek’s espousal of the end of liberal democracy in favour of an all powerful council/junta/oligarchy of brilliant magnates and entrepreneurs…
Quite literally the last people that should be in charge of anything except an early stage fintech startup or something.

Hayek is fascinating. He literally wrote the book (“The Sensory Order”) on embodied psychology — a revolutionary (and quite correct) challenge to Cartesian dualism, which locates cognition as being the result of modal sensory interpretation. This means there is no such thing as objective, context-free information, only the interpretation of the world for a purpose. And then, having given the world this jewel of radical psychology, he decided he hated the implications of it for the social order and so spent the rest of his life devoted to building an economics that denied the very thing he had worked so hard to establish — an economics entirely built on the reification of “information” as a disembodied and contextless commodity, whose exchange should replace all notions of “social justice” as the way to organise society. Hayek the psychologist should have hated Hayek the economist! But the latter was explicitly ideological in his view of “social justice” as being primitive and tribal thinking.

This is quite interesting on the actual physical infrastructure for both Musk's empire and AI in general:
How Memphis became a battleground over Elon Musk’s xAI supercomputer

‘Grok. an AI chatbot, similar to ChatGPT, that the company flaunts as “having a sense of humor.” Musk has called it the “most fun AI in the world.” It has fewer rules than other AI chatbots and has been known for creating images, such as Mickey Mouse as a Nazi and Kamala Harris in lingerie’

Yeah… Hilarious 😐

grok has also mocked Elon musk tbf to it.... Having few rules for your AI is a double edged sword it seems. On the one hand it generates all the smutty images you could possibly want of a political opponent or tying a cartoon character to it's creator's extreme rightwing views... On the other hand it'll call you a twat. To your face.

Did you read the full article? It includes people who advocate monarchy and are explicitly anti-Enlightenment.

Like this guy:

Doesn't seem in line with liberalism to me unless you are stretching the definition a lot.
Liberalism justified both the slave trade, the systematic removal of indigenous people, indebted servitude and more
I'm not sure these loons have a coherent enough philosophy for it to be called anything other then the wet dreams of narcissistic scum but there are some influences from liberalism in the promotion of charter cities, free ports, etc

I get that, but the idea of a CEO Monarchy is definitely something different. Socialism and Marxism also have some roots in liberalism. If we are going to call this kind of neo-Monarchism liberalism then the word loses all meaning.

I think it makes more sense to say that there is an anti-democratic tendency within Liberal Capitalism produced by some of its own inherent tensions which this is an expression of, but it is something categorically different from the kind of liberalism espoused by Biden, for instance.

And it is clearly also categorically different from fascism espoused, and practiced, by the German Nazi or Italian Fascist regimes - the lack of focus on the nation as a historic, ethnic body being one key example.

Like I said it is an incoherent mish mash of crap, but there are trends that can be traced back to liberalism.

Fair enough. There isn't really a clear label for it yet.

It’s just the usual the market will solve everything but souped up and on steroids with little counterweight or value placed on things outside of a very narrow definition of “progress”.

TBF the basic idea is much older than that, it is basically the reaction that "the successful" (read: the people who hoarded all the land and wealth) often have whenever a country or empire starts to slow down.

Sparta, Athens, Rome (Republic and Empire), Umayyad Spain, Eastern Rome, the Ottomans, the French Monarchy, several versions of China and others who I have forgotten all thought that giving the top more power resulted in more stability and all discovered that what happened was that the people who the society is based on get so impoverished that they both stop supporting that society and make it fundamentally unstable. What they basically want is a Victorian coal-mine of a society where the canary has no voice.

International child of the tantrums, musk tweeted: "I don’t think anyone should go to the UK when they’re releasing convicted pedophiles in order to imprison people for social media posts,"

What a twat.

:D

He’s got form for that hasn’t he? Calling other people paedophiles.
Hmmm. I wonder? 🧐

Meanwhile, in Texas, Space X appropriates tramples all over a ransom strip Cards Against Humanity bought in order to help thwart Trump's border wall. CAH are now suing Space X for $15 million to restore the land to its natural state.

An actual genius wrote:

"I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals. In such an economy, the means of production are owned by society itself and are utilized in a planned fashion. A planned economy, which adjusts production to the needs of the community, would distribute the work to be done among all those able to work and would guarantee a livelihood to every man, woman, and child. The education of the individual, in addition to promoting his own innate abilities, would attempt to develop in him a sense of responsibility for his fellow men in place of the glorification of power and success in our present society."
