Is Trump's personality a result of self-loathing?

I mused on this earlier. Biden being the same - two old men with huge amounts of money, can do virtually anything they want; and yet rather than enjoy their last few years with family and friends, grandchildren etc they want this big prize.

Just don’t understand how they’re wired that way. Probably both sociopaths tbh

It does kind of make sense though. No one got mega rich by being nice and well balanced. look at bankers. It’s not about having enough money it’s about the metrics, I am better than this person I have got more than X. I’ve gone up another level. I mean no one thinks after they made a few million that’s enough now I’ll just stop. Well most people in that position don’t. Because that isn’t the attitude that gets you there in the first place.

I think Trump is basically a selfish bully, he enjoys being the centre of attention and putting others down, I don't think he has ever been a team player, it has always been about him. Is he an only child? or are there siblings?
I think he had an older brother who effectively drank himself to death.

I don't mind a bit of the old armchair psychoanalysis however it mainly seems to be used by the media in light doses to build up who they think is popular or as part of a stick the boot in critique of a political enemy. There can't be much objection to Trump being described as a narcissist however it doesn't explain why millions in America support him or that support for rightwing populist political figures would still be there, not only in America but also in other countries.

I tried for a life of erotic vagrancy but ended up just drifting about like a wanker.
Great title isn’t it? Fortunately that one is the light relief to the Trump bricks - a salacious biography detailing the toxic carcrash of Richard Burton’s and Elizabeth Taylor’s tempestuous relationship.

All the necessities of life: books to read, cider to drink, and when that gets boring some tv to watch. Except, your glass is empty.
And I don’t use it for cider - it’s just for water or juice. I nicked that and another from a bar as they’re heavy and tough and hard to knock over and break, which is just as well as i’m always kicking it across the room

Everyone will agree he’s a malignant narcissist.

When it comes to consideration of the ultimate causes, I’m in the Silas Loom camp. Some proportion of fuck-ups is inevitable in just about any society. The real problem here is a society that allows someone like this to get into positions of such power.

It's mostly a protest vote, in particular against the endless war that "Biden" represents. Only a very few nutters actively support Trump ime.

Ime. In your experience. Travelling every dusty road in every flyover state. Asking everyone in a MAGA hat how they feel about NATO.

Every Trump voter I ever spoke to agreed there are significant problems with him as a person, but they definitely actively support him.

Yes but I bet what they actively support about him is his active and mutual hatred of "permanent Washington." No-one thinks he's a political genius, they just know that all the politicians and the MSM hate him. That's all it takes to win their votes. He's like Brexit iyswim.

Of course the tragedy is that there is very little evidence to suggest he does have an active hatred of "permanent Washington" - certainly not before he was elected when he hung out with all that circle, and since he was elected he has largely acted in the same way that they all have in terms of enriching himself, corruptly favouring donors, being the "greatest friend to Israel", stuffing his cronies into every safe seat and sinecure he could find, using (and continuing to use) the arch-swampdweller Mitch McConnell etc etc. That they do what he does is one of his biggest get out of jail free cards.

Whenever he does come out with something that is different to "permanent Washington", such as his brief 2015/16 flirtation with single payer healthcare systems for example, it is quickly and permanently buried.

I remember once reading a theory that all the bravado, over the top egotism and other assorted bullshit is a reaction to self-loathing. He's used all of the above to bury in some far recess of his brain the knowledge that he's only where he is because of inherited wealth, without which no one (including his wives) would give the odious orange sh*tgibbon the time of day.
The theory of narcissism is that there is a deep wound, usually in childhood, that is covered up by a false personality as a defence and then eventually that personality becomes the actual persona. It’s eradication of vulnerability. The guy is never ever ever wrong, for example. He is a classic narcissist, I’m fairly sure. Narcissism is on a spectrum, we all have it, but he I suspect is a classic extreme example.

A bit of that, yeah.
Also a lot of nativism and also a curious belief that the USA had undergone a socialist takeover.

He did indeed - Fred Trump Jr. He also had a younger brother Robert, who was also in property and ran Trump Management for him and two sisters, one, Marayanne a judge and the other, Elizabeth, his only sibling still alive who worked for Chase Manhattan.

A foible which they do not make sufficiently clear to visiting English drunks. I still feel cheated by that stall in Vermont.

It was probably fortunate for me that the spiced cider they were handing out at the top of the chairlift in Aspen was alcohol free.
I'm shit on a snowboard when I'm sober
