International Cricket

Things finally seem to have started. But if the umpires only suspect ball tampering then you can't see Sri Lanka taking this one lying down.

Feisty.

Kumara to Smith, no run, bouncer first up!

Kumara to Smith, no run, another short ball, Smith gets under it. Dickwella jumps and does well to gather it. Smith walks out for some gardening and Dickwella flings it towards the stumps and then appeals. Gould has a chat with him and rules the ball to have been dead by the time Smith strode out

Now Smith pulls out at the last moment, right before Kumara is about to deliver the ball. Aleem Dar tells him off.

Kumara to Smith, 1 no ball, make that a third consecutive short ball. Too much bounce, and called a no-ball

 :hmm:

Real shame about the controversy as this is a cracking test match. Shannon Gabriel's taken 13 wickets in the match and still looks likely to be on the losing side as WI lose early wickets. All four results still possible.

Anyone else following the unexpected annihilation of South Africa in Sri Lanka?

Trounced by 278 runs at Galle in the first test

1st Test, South Africa Tour of Sri Lanka at Galle, Jul 12-14 2018 | Match Summary | ESPNCricinfo

they are now facing a similar mauling in the second

SL 151/3 (34.0 ov, FDM Karunaratne 59*, AD Mathews 12*, D Elgar 0/2) - Stumps | Match Summary | ESPNCricinfo

although Maharaj did take an astonishing 9/129.

South Africa, in three innings so far, have managed 126, 73 and 124.

Could it have anything to do with Galle suddenly being on death row?

I'd guess most teams would find an extra gear in those circumstances. Imagine bulldozers outside Lords or the WACA. Just a thought.

New Zealand beat Pakistan by four runs in UAE. Great win for them. Some excellent tests and excellent away wins this week. Good stuff.

And Neil Wagner just keeps on taking wickets. I still haven't quite worked out how he does it. He's not tall. He's not quick. He doesn't really swing it.

Yasir Shah takes ten wickets in a day for Pakistan as NZ are bowled out for ninety and then asked to follow on. An innings victory for Pakistan is still a possibility despite a much improved second innings from the kiwis.

These silly nonsenses have long existed of course. Anyone remember the all-rounder comp that used to be held in Hong Kong. Best not to take them too seriously or to pay heed to 'records'.

That said, T10 finally achieves the seemingly impossible - a cricket match that's briefer than a football match.

Aus 92-5

India's seamers showing their class again. I think Bumrah's my favourite bowler at the moment. Big competition. Rabada is irresistible. Test criccket.:cool:

Three tests to choose from atm.

Test cricket dying? Oh no.

Well, guess the aussies haven't reached their lowest point yet. Still, got to be down to be able to go up. Here's hoping our 2nd innings gets at least to the 200s, if not all the way to win the match?

yeah, I know, pigs, pink ones at that, are flying well today . . . . .

Just looking at the scorecard alone it does seem a rather strange game this Boxing Day test. Why did India not bat on instead of declaring? Why did they not ask the crims to bat again? Either way it looks like a thumping about to be handed down.

At this rate even Warner will be welcomed back with open arms.

In other news, as if we hadn't worked it out already, Bancroft laid the blame for the sandpaper ball tampering squarely on Warner. So I can't see those two appearing on the same team any time....ever.

His statement was fucking pathetic, they should ban him for another year just for that.

It is the gift that keeps on giving. ;)

I almost feel sorry for Warner. Then I remember that he's Warner - he stormed off the pitch this year when he was sledged in a Grade match ffs. Not the most self-aware individual. But both Bancroft and Smith have been busy throwing Warner under the bus recently. Bancroft did the cheating and Smith was the captain who knew about it, yet it was somehow all dodgy Dave's fault. Fucking pathetic is about right.

Aus about to lose against India. Here's hoping they stuff them in Sydney as well. I've watched a fair bit of this match and Aus's top order is poor. It's England 1990s poor - you just expect them to get out. Credit to India - Bumrah, especially, the smiling assassin - but England would have stood a chance against this lot. They're that bad. Oh and their bowlers aren't getting much reverse swing this season. Funny that, they were so good at it against England - exactly the same bowlers and all.

So what does everyone make of the Indians winning in Oz? 2-1 but really the weather saved the aussies from a 3-1 pasting. The bowling unit is not that far off the one that did for England, so maybe its just the batting? Not many teams could lose 3 batsman including their two best and still be as strong but I get the feeling there is something else going on, a more existential problem. Is Tim Paine really their best batting wicket keeper or is he just there because they needed a reliable personality to captain?

What about India? Does this make England's result in the summer look even better or is England fast becoming the hardest tour (conditions wise) for touring teams? I think we were a bit fortunate in that Bumrah was injured at the start and never really got going afterwards. Plus Pujara's confidence evaporating spell with Yorkshire before the series probably helped.

India's bowlers impressed me in England as well. Bumrah seems to be improving by the game. He's a real star. Shami was massively unlucky in England.

This was a 2-1 pasting, while the defeat in England was a narrow 1-4: will feel they should have won at Edgbaston, and India would surely have won at Lord's if they had won the toss. A lot is being made of the toss - England won every one in the summer and at least one was key; here, the team winning the toss has won/been robbed by the weather in every game. But I don't think that made any difference in the last two matches - India walloped them and would have done so batting second as well. aus just don't have anyone who can make the big scores in decent conditions. India had two.

And don't underestimate the significance of Aus's new-found inability to change the state of the ball. Starc has been completely neutered by it. Looking forward to the summer, that may be of more significance than the return to the fold of the twat and the cunt.

Yeah good point regarding the toss (didn't Root win all 3 in SL as well?). There is this idea being kicked around regarding the toss and getting rid of it and just saying the visiting team always gets the choice. Might be some merit in it.

Its a bit sad to think that ball tampering had such a significant impact on the strength of the aussie bowling.
