Hundreds of women assaulted in German NYE celebrations

That's been a hotly-debated question for the last 70 years. There's some evidence that Stalin influenced troop deployments so that some of the most seasoned (and long-serving) troops were in the vanguard of the entry into Germany - blokes who hadn't seen their home districts in the Soviet north-east for 4 years. Stalin would have known that the likely consequence would be rape and looting.

In the books I read, the vanguard troops were mostly disciplined, secured the area, then moved on, it was the masses after, many from the Steppes, Urals, etc.

But.. They surely meant well, like lots of people here.

"“Police concealed the origin of the suspects,” was Friday’s headline in Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, a local newspaper.

“Incident report proves identity of suspects was hushed up,” Express, another local newspaper, said.

Let's not allow the NYE attacks in Cologne to become a racial issue. A focus of that sort only adds fuel to narratives typical of the BNP and UKIP, which means that the young female victims are essentially forgotten in an argument about male violence. This is a feminist issue that carries across many cultures - white and western, included - which (as Gaby says) then tarnishes all men of the same descriptors with the same societal faults. And in this case, I think it is the need for education that is at the core of aligning acceptance between BOTH sides of this issue.
