New Orleans NYE - truck drives into crowd killing many then opening fire

The people in charge of this entire operation are clearly all unhinged based on that press conference. From the drunk senator barging people out of the way to get to the mic to the hapless police chief who claimed that blocking the street with a police truck ahead of the evenings parties was preparation, and how could they expect someone to mount the sidewalk to go around the parked truck, i mean what kind of criminal genius would come up with that.

And every second answer referring back to the fucking football game and how it was still going ahead tomorrow ('I'm even going, and aaahm your're guvnor!'. Oh and the advert for NOPD t-shirts outside the police station for the first briefing was a nice touch too... :D

Yeh. This is him. Apparently he stole the truck from a Mexican. Adding to the confusion.
Speaking of your confusion, I'm wondering why you're painting this as 31/12/24 rather than, as is clear, occurring on 1/1/25.

Guardian has:

The Associated Press says it has obtained an intelligence bulletin from Louisiana state police that says several “potential explosive devices” were found in New Orleans’s’ French Quarter following the vehicle attack early Wednesday, and that surveillance footage had “captured three men and a woman placing one of multiple improvised explosive devices”.

There was no immediate confirmation from the state police department.

According to the bulletin, the AP says, guns and pipe bombs found in the suspect’s pick-up truck were found concealed within coolers and “wired for remote detonation”. A corresponding remote control was also discovered, it said.

The suspect accused of plowing a truck through a crowd on Bourbon Street is 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar, according to a law enforcement source.

The source said he was carrying an ISIS flag in the truck.

Doesn't sound like a very Mexican name
What is a "Mexican name"?

He managed to shoot two cops according to this press conference. This head of police is insane. 'A message to tourists, please keep enjoying New Orleans today, we have a lot to offer' after calling it a terrorist act, then the FBI lady gets on and says it's not a terrorist act. although given he also had a bomb in his car I don't know what else you'd call it. All a bit of a shitshow.

edit: soz it was the Mayor who called it a terror attack, not the chief of police

New Orleans largest industry is tourism. With Mardi Gras coming up, I'm sure they don't want to scare the tourists away.

I'm amazed with all of the other incidents involving vehicles around the world that you could get one anywhere near the area.

:D

I suspect most of the people on that street at 3am may have been celebrating NYE but if a mod wants to amend the title to appease this idiot then go for it
It's nothing to do with what they were celebrating and everything to do with when it happened
